Why do a reasonable number of cyclists turn into the road police?

It's not your job to tell her to get off her phone, it's not right and I wouldn't do it, but I'd of told you to F-off too.
I'd have told you that you were unable to English correctly, as well as telling you to stop using a phone. If you see someone being mugged would you also not intervene for fear of being thought too police-like?

Texting whilst driving is an utterly tttish thing to do, it just proves how many selfish morons are on the roads who can't bear to stop using their phone for a while. In general I can't stand the typical YouTube angry cyclists provoking situations and ranting at people, but I'd certainly welcome them to have a go at the mouth breathing spacktards who text whilst driving.

The police took no action against him, despite seeing him on his phone.

Anyway, back to my point. Why are so many drivers fixated with using their phones whilst driving?
You already answered your own question.

I was sat inside an office on Thursday near a busy road and watching out the window, loads of people that drove by were on their phone. I did think it would be really easy to set up a simple CCTV type thing to catch people so I'm amazed they haven't. In the 10 minutes I was waiting it was probably an easy 30 or 40 convictions.

It's normally them same type of cyclist who go round looking for confrontation and then when they get a bit back they're like "it's all on camera, you're going on YouTube" etc etc. tts
Shut up, you're completely unaware of the dangers of texting, so don't drive, get off the road and simmer with your Daily Mail. I noticed you didn't mention the drivers who also take offence at people texting.

Texting whilst driving and someone being mugged really aren't the same though.....

What's increasingly more shocking, is that many cars have the facility to answer the phone, make a call , even can get twitter feeds.

Our CX-3 has all the functions for social media updates but we disabled them and just kept the text message alerts which are read out and incoming/out coming calls via the system, hands free. So basically there are a lot of thick people out there who have paid for functionality they don't know how to use.

Even my old RX-8 had a voice activated system, there are really no excuses to holding the phone.

In my Saab 900, I just chuck the phone in the storage area on silent. Personally, I don't think you should be able to answer a call in anyway while the car is moving.

A good friend of mine was killed last year due to a tt using his phone; correction, he dropped his phone in the cab of his truck and went head on into my mate whilst trying to pick it up off the floor, so I tend to get a bit waspy with people who use their phones whilst driving.

I'm sure people should also keep their beak out when it comes to drink drivers too yeah?

I've done it a few times and got told to **** off, but I find it funny how mad people get when they know they're in the wrong.

Was an idiot on the motorway yesterday doing about 75mph who started drifting into the left lane. At one point was driving in both lanes. Turned out he was staring down at his phone. Even had young kids in the rear. Though it is something I see everyday now. Look in rear view mirror and 9/10 times they have head down. Had dozens of girls not seeing the light turn green. Vast majority we see are girls. Young girls in their 20's seem to be the worst.

Since you didn't die you should mind your own business mate.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of 'sticking your nose into what other people are doing' you've got to be a complete and utter idiot to use your phone (other than on hands free and even that is distracting ) while driving.
If you're looking at your phone,if you're distracted in anyway by your phone you are not concentrating on driving and you're a fecking menace !
Have a nice day now smile

Personally I think there is a big difference between someone who texts whilst in stop start traffic, and someone who is intoxicated behind the wheel.

Driving whilst drunk/tired/stoned etc is a big problem, affects your reactions, affects your judgement etc.

Sending the odd text message while crawling along and keeping one eye on the road simply distracts you. The same as paying attention to a pretty lady walking along the pavement, reading a signpost, adjusting the temperature on a car you're not familiar with, or changing the album on the in car media player.

What we need to do is spend less on the police but install more speed cameras and 20 zones. That will solve the problem.

It is my job - she veered into the cycle lane and was about to pin me between her car and the kerb. I told her to get off her phone. Because she was a girl I left it at that, even though she revved up behind me as if she was trying to run me over.

Why is it not right to tell idiots to drive safely? What if she knocks a child down at some point because of her texting?

If you find driving and speaking at the same time that difficult, then I'm inclined to agree.

Funny I've just seen this thread pop up, we've just got back from Birmingham and every other the driver was on their phone, wither texting or on a call.

We saw a woman in an Aygo on the M6 eating a McFlurry while driving rolleyes

I don't. it's the process of the distraction and content of the call that's the issue, if you've noticed (which I doubt you have) there is a marked difference to chatting to a passanger in the car to answering a call.

What if she knocks an adult down?

Why are children always brought into conversations like this? Seems to me to be little more than 'think of the children' emotional blackmail.

A life is a life. I no more want an adult to be knocked down by a car than a child.

Shall I tell that to the tt who bumped me whilst moving slowly in traffic....... ?

It is also not the same as it does not take as much visual concentration and interaction to change a temp slider once found by the eye/hand.

hehe

If I were a cyclist in city traffic, a lot of cars would have an imprint of my hand on their windows.
