given that adblue is cheaper than diesel.
Really ? Do you pay more than £1.50 per litre for diesel ?
No, Pay £.065 per litre for Ad Blue filling up from the pump at the local filling station, no doubt the dealer also has a pump and is just screwing the customer as usual.
You could sell that on for about a 900% mark-up, unless you meant £0.65/l?

There are other engineering solutions - I don't think Mazda uses the technology (look for "SCR - Selective Catalytic Reduction) at all.
Yep Renault have something similar in their cars to do away with the need for Adblue, it isn't called SCR though; I can't remember what it is called but it seems a similar concept, I believe it is more expensive to have that system though but it is more convenient for the end user.

Their E6 vans require Adblue though.

Sorry, my post is a bit confusing. SCR uses Ad Blue, so if you want to avoid Ad Blue then you need to avoid cars with SCR in their description / spec.

Already had to refill the Adblue on our Yeti, this was at 4k miles, it's now getting low again at 7.5k miles.

Got the Adblue from Halfords, but obviously a crafty trick that the dealers can get a huge mark up on if you give it to them for a refill....

I've read that Porsche dealers want around £100 for a top up!!

So if you do get it done at the dealers, it's another running cost that's not really common knowledge.

Got a Citroen C4 Cactus. Has a 17 litre Adblue tank. Meant to last for entire service length (12500 miles). Has a warning light at 1500 miles left. Went in for it's 12500 service and warning light hadn't yet come on. Final bill from Citroen dealer showed "Top up Adblue---No charge"

VW mandated a £1.50 per litre charge after after some people were ripped off by dealers. It's supposed to be a drop-in service and the cost includes putting it in.

As far as I know, all VAG brands are the same, although I've seen the same comments about Porsche too.

I think Ad Blue ratio can be as low as 4% of diesel consumption so at 50MPG it could use as little as 10L in 12,500 miles.

In out Tiquan it's looking like the ratio is around 10%. As it only holds 12L and does around 40MPG it needs refilling at under 4-5K miles.

My car (Audi so will be the same type of engine) needs at least 6 litres to register a refill. You can get 10l from halfords for £20 or try a truck refuelling station where it's cheaper.
Can't you just piss in the tank?

I get about 62mpg! No wonder there was no warning light.

They came up with 'adblue' as 'PigsPiss' oddly didn't test very well amongst the high-minded and not-at-all-self-regarding drivers of modern German 2.0 TDIs.

Not even PigsPissPlus was acceptable, even though putting '...Plus' on anything automotive related at all usually makes it instantly irresistible to the aforementioned high-minded drivers of German TDIs.

I think you have forgotten the litre/gallon conversion. 12500/50 = 250 gallons = 1136 litres x 4% = 45.46 litres (exactly 10 gallons).

The Tiguan at 10% would need a refill every 1050 miles, at 4% every 2640 miles. These percentages vary according to conditions and driving style.

The following website calculates around 6,000 miles per fill in long journey average driving conditions:
