What is your ideal car?

Honestly? Golf GTI. Does everything and i just want one.
Just sold my mk6 GTi. Loved it. It was fast, small, practical, manual, looked good! I miss it a lot. Replaced with a diesel Audi A3 DSG Quattro. It's not the same, although the interior is nicer. I think an RS3 could well be my ideal car, in black, with black wheels! If not that, then an M3/4/C63 coupe.

sure, the term can be interpreted different ways, but we've had "just one car" threads before. So i took this to mean "your ideal configuration" like some of the opening posts stating V12, passive suspension, N/A, etc. To rephrase: "if you opened your garage door for a sunday drive and walked past the people carrier and work barge, what would be your ideal car to enjoy?"
I guess. But I would say an "ideal car" would have to be somewhere between "one car fits all" and "toy" to make it ideal, hence why the RS6 etc is getting more mentions than something like a Ferrari etc.My "Weekend Toy" car would be an LP640, my ideal car overall would be more of a super saloon / GT Car (hence my RS7, 991Ts suggestion)

I do like the MK6 shape. I've seen a few catching my eye hovering near the 11k mark which is good value. Really wanted the MK7 and even had one on order but it was not to be unfortunately and i was properly gutted. As much as i like the R i just feel like the GTI is the perfect all rounder and looks a bit more discreet. That's not to say i wouldn't have one though! If not that, then an M3/4/C63 coupe.

As I said, with 5 kids, though I would happily kill for a Corvette Gran Sport, it couldn't be less ideal but that engine in a big saloon is.

Needs to be quite compact but have decent space, something say Mk2 Golf sized
FWD or RWD doesnt matter as long as it has an LSD
Hydro steering
Cable throttle non of that drive by wire pish!
Decent 6 speed manual
Decent disc brakes all around
Responsive NA engine with ITBs
Around 250bhp
6 Cylinder
Cruise control
Normal hand brake
Ohlins suspension
Momo Prototipo steering wheel
Comfy bucket seats
That should do it!
Sounds a lot like an E36 M3 3.0 ?FWD or RWD doesnt matter as long as it has an LSD

I would want a car in which I can fit the wife and myself, with enough space for a couple of weekend bags.
The ability to sit comfortably on the motorway without drinking like a sailor on shore leave and without a noisy drone from the exahust. However when you "nail it" you would definitely announce your presence to those within a couple of miles...
But then, can get to the mountains and open itself up to blast around in the sunshine. Would then need to be V8 or straight six to really sound good. And probably n/a. A few hundred BHP so you can get around the switchbacks and pull around slow locals in their 1980s Fiats and Renault 5s and buses in the blink of an eye and really exploit all the road has to offer.
Must also not look like it "could" be the peasant model of anything - so not like 3 or 5 series BMW where you could just as easily be in a blinged up 2.0 diesel as the rip-roaring testosterone monster.

For my daily driver I'd go something like:
No more than 1000kg wet
No more than 1800mm wide (excluding mirrors)
40:60 F:R weight distribution
Manual convertible roof
3 seats (ala Mclaren F1)
2 litre longitudinal NA mid-mounted flat-plane V8; producing 250bhp at 9000rpm and at least 90% of peak torque at peak power.
Unassisted steering
Unassisted brakes
Cable throttle
Manual dog-leg gearbox; around 70mph in third at the limiter.
A boot no smaller than my current Elise.
Passive double wishbone suspension all 'round.
That sounds rather nice. I'll take one as well. No more than 1000kg wet

Nothing if my new ideal car is to be made by the end of the year due to the new road tax levy of £140 minium for all new emission cars except battery cars from next year. Then big insurance costs on anything thats pricey or big engined and fast. Cleaver innovations like aircooled engines with big power and sound is what impresses me. So just to clarify. The car has to be made by the end of the year, a 6 cyclinder aircooled engine that you can turn off cyclinders on the button say run on 2 or 3 to get around the road tax price and for fuel economy for town driving, £30 p.a. road tax is ideally what i want to pay. Car has to cost as cheap as possible i dont want to pay more than £350 insurance a year. Its gotta look good. Good luck it looks like i will be driving new electric cars, classic cars or low road tax emssision used cars from next year.
