Ideal Car?

Tough one, in fact is there such a thing as an ideal car? I think the compromises I'd make to have one ideal car would be

RS4 Avant

>400 BHP
AWD
Load Lugging Capability
<4.8 0 - 60
V8

Enough performance, Practical. No track car and heavy but you're going to have to make compromises for one ideal car right?

991 Turbo S, is there a question that car can't answer? I suspect not.

RS4 or an RS6 wagon without a doubt.

Probably the 4, don't really need the size or ridiculousness of the 6.

I wish to change my initial answer to this please smile

Prefer it's dimensions to the RS6 and that V8 is complete sonorous heaven.

Needs to be quite compact but have decent space, something say Mk2 Golf sized
FWD or RWD doesnt matter as long as it has an LSD
Hydro steering
Cable throttle non of that drive by wire pish!
Decent 6 speed manual
Decent disc brakes all around
Responsive NA engine with ITBs
Around 250bhp
6 Cylinder
Cruise control
Normal hand brake
Ohlins suspension
Momo Prototipo steering wheel
Comfy bucket seats

That should do it!
& Double wishbone suspension F & R,

Yes please.

the problem is the RS4 engine is utterly gutless low down and very poor for daily driving (it is wonderful when you are ringing its neck thou), the RS6 will melt the tires as soon as you look at the loud pedal

the new RS4 with its bi electric turbo V6 should resolve that issue

I am very much along the same lines as the OP but ask more from the engine. Even allowing for their larger cylinder capacities high performance car engines are miles behind good motorcycle engines.

1000 kg wet.
Mid-engined.
RWD.
3.5 to 4.0 litre V12, n/a, direct fuel injection, and with very oversquare 1.6 bore/stroke ratio (as per BMW S1000RR), should produce ~675 bhp at ~11,500 rpm.
Carbon-fibre tub.
Relatively narrow, 180 cm, and quite low 105 cm. Mild aero. Top speed 230+ mph.
6 or 7-speed box, closely spaced at top end (expect 2nd gear to run to ~100 mph).

Right now it would be a sports car with RWD, either 5 or 6 cylinders and i'm not that bothered about face melting performance as can't be used most of the time anyway. So based on this i'd probably go Porsche Cayman S(the old model not the new one)

Mk2 Exige with 911 Gt3 RS 4.0 engine.
Should still be under a tonne (I think) with ~500bhp and no electronics.

So, it's January, there is snow on the ground and you need some milk. Are you taking the Rolls?

You mean the GTC4 Lusso now surely?

This would get my vote as well (but in a nice dark blue)

Alot of others seem to say the same thing funnily enough. The problem with the RS6 is i'd never be able to fully appreciate and enjoy the sheer power it carries. I'd lose my license within minutes. A nice big V8 is much more appealing to me aswell.

My ideal car would have to wear a few hats: accomodate the family in comfort, take the labrador along too, plus all the gubbins associated with said family and labrador, be a comfortable distance cruiser and have some serious pace.

As far as technical specs go:
V12, Aston Ferrari or Lambo style
500bhp+
double wishbones on all 4 corners
5 doors
foldable back seats
a hatchback at least
Android Auto capable infoTainment system
isofix rear seats (yawwwwwwn)

In fact, possibly something pretty similar to this...

My perfect car would be an SL55 with F1 package, of about 2005. Entirely standard spec otherwise.
