That's not a £6.5k plate. I'd balk at paying even £2k for it.

I'm just trying to work out, either you are a cop, and you want to advertise that fact to every car vandal out there or your surname is Cope and you intend to space it COP3S ? Which IMHO could look sad and possibly lead to a fine etc.....

Either way I'd do something else with the cash, like buy a track toy/speedboat/month in the sun......but thats just me.
Don't get me wrong, I have a surname that could easily be spelt on a plate and it has crossed my mind in the past, but I've always suppressed the urge and bought something else instead.
Perhaps you already have all the toys you want and see this as the icing on the cake in which case good luck to you, and crack on.

Maybe you're right. I'm not a cop, purely surname. What got me into the idea is I saw the plate COP 13Y listed in the paper so checked online and it is up for an eye watering 13k!

Rip off Britain strikes again . One of my lads is a huge Liverpool FC fan so got him YNWA as a stocking filler a few years back . Total cost on the car $85CDN so maybe 50 quid , have any plate you like unless already released and it's 85 bucks . Did I previously mention no road tax or MOT's roflgetmecoat

Not sure how anyone can claim to not be rich, but would consider 6.5K on a numberplate! I'd love to be that tight for money biggrin

I got a cheapo £250 private plate for my car with wives name on it as part of my master plan to make her like it and not bring up the idea of selling it when money gets tight. It's affordable when it's a one syllable foreign name biglaugh

I can help you invest that £6.5k if a return is your prime motivator.

I wouldn't pay £500 for it.

You'd make you car look cheaper and would struggle to sell it on.

Seller is obviously chancing it.

Might identify you as plod to varying scum who might then vandalise yr car

Ie as sometimes happens to football fans who put stickers in their cars.

If the plate is particularly memorable take in to consideration that the car will attract more attention (good or bad).

Ive parked my car and a few times seen kids taking selfies with the plate in shot (my plate spells out a common first name). The car isnt particularly fancy so its just the novelty of the plate that brings them over. Normally well natured but can and has attracted the wrong attention too from chavs.

For what its worth it I probably wouldn't spend the money again on the plate but have no intentions to sell. Comments about more common plates being hard to sell are justified too - unless very desirable or suitable for auction the vast majority of plates are worth very little.

You could give me £6.5k and I'll just go about telling people how rich and successful you are...

I can appreciate decent private plates like F1 but conversely the white Range Rover with PU55SSY well .... Says it all really

Op: see it as 6.5k spent and assume you will get nothing back, anything you do is a bonus.

If you would still buy in this basis, proceed. Regardless I don't see the harm in going in low, upping one time and then walking away.

OP that plate looks like trouble to me. Also the asking price v the impact is not very good. I may be out of date but it looks like a grands worth to me. I bet you will struggle to sell it on even for that.

Why not buy a £500 plate from the DVLA and a £5000 HiFi / holiday / something decent?

That plate sold for £900+VAT+Commission at a DVLA auction back in 2009.

I think the plate is quite good if it is nearly your surname, but way over valued at £6500!

I'd expect it has been up for sale since 2009, so that will give you an idea of potential re-sale.

If you really wanted it, i'd say £1500-2000 would be more like it.

Thanks for the replies all. Interesting information back too.. Closer to a grand I'd probably go for it but I do agree 6 is ridiculous when you can buy a decent car for that.

Also interesting view on attracting trouble, I'd never really thought about it.

Agree with all of this. £6500 is ridiculous.

If you're looking at plates from delaers, always look to see if it went through the DVLA auction first so you can see the mark up they're applying.

I lost out on a plate at auction that I wanted for years and would've been about £3500. A few years later I enquired about it through a dealer and it was £8500. Err no, you can stick that.

I have a simple prefix two digits and my initials, I actually really like it and think it makes my car my own, however I do get people saying ... Oh you were parked outside so and so the other day, it usually harmless comments from friends, but I do worry sometimes about how easy it is to recognise the car... Not enough to remove it though.

I have a plate LV51FER which I bought from DVLA back in 2004 for about £400. I'd still be incredulous if anyone ever thought of paying £5k for it. £5k is a lot of money.
