SO was on the M1 today and a nice empty stretch of road ahead. A BMW 1 series was hogging the right hand lane doing probably 65mph and I approached from behind at speed (73mph). As he had no ideas to move I gave him a little flash of my headlights. To which he responded by slamming on the brakes and then pointing towards his dashcam!!! He was basically trying to say "Don't mess you are being recorded" furious

First of all the hogs a lane and then won't move but is acting cocky as he has a camera - I mean W T F!

He just did not want to move out of my way and wanted me to over take him from the left.

I'm getting ready for being flamed by the PH crew but who was wrong here me or him?

Had the same thing recently by some raging old fella in a corsa.

Im in lane 3 doing about 75mph overtaking a van sat in the middle lane at 60mph, corsa comes creaming up behind the van then cuts in behind me inches off my bumper. Then starts flashing his lights and getting all worked up. I pull infront of the van and theres corsa man sat level with me pointing to his dash cam.

I just laughed at him and carried on, he proceeds to do the same thing to the next 3 cars in lane 3.

Owners seem to think it gives them the divine right to be a cock.

I had a similar event on the M1 last week - some idiot woman in an Audi cut in front of me, didn't like when I honked/flashed at her so she brake tested me. At this point I did the tt thing of moving across to go around the inside of her just to prove she was being a tt. She then overtakes me, filming me with her phone and waving at me. All I can imagine is that video is showing her using her mobile whilst she is driving, as none of the footage of her original transgressions, or my ones, will have been caught on film.

No flaming from us. Anyone going slower than the car behind should move over at the first opportunity

From the old people driving thread:

I'm putting this in here as its about an old person driving.

The main rant is about the old gits dash camera, because boys and girls we all have those for a reason.

So to my mini rant. I'm leaving town last night and have an old git in a Jeep renegade. sporting a front and rear dash camera. queueing on the dual carridge way he decides to adjust the front camera, thus holding me up whilst all the traffic on front is moving. I toot my horn and light the blue touch paper.

He then starts to move off slowly, yes goading me. I get into the outside lane with the intention of taking the space he has created with his stupid fking driving style. I know I should have ignored him , but thats my choice we all make calls that we sometimes regret...

He sussed what I was doing so I give him the coffee bean shake, Christ I know it was a hot day but he now start going mental, closing the gap by speeding up, but failing to change gear.

The engine wasn't singing it was screaming at a pitch I've never heard before in a diesel. All the time he was looking straight ahead giving me the V sign, with the engine now at full pelt and steam coming from his ears. still V signing me.

How he didn't hit the car in front is beyond my me.

So the only antics that were recorded on his dash cam were his irratic driving.

fking mental old git, I bet he went home and down loaded his footage and became the oldest poster on U Tube

I don't know why people point at their silly little cameras. The police won't be interested unless you're doing something *very* dangerous and the insurance company will ask why the cammer was being such a tit in the event of an accident.

DCWs (Dash Cam W...ers) are a menace. I've experienced the same as the OP.

Many people seem to believe a dashcam will always be to protect them. People naturally think they're great drivers (like me, and you- we're all brill!). They don't consider that they might be a bit st (unlike me, I'm great, remember!) and that the footage they've recorded of themselves might be good at proving it.

The best thing to do with a dash cam is to fit it out of sight, hard wire it, and forget about it until the day you need it.
edit: Probably best to check now and again that it's working and recording ok!

Why do people bother flashing if the is stuck in lane 2 or 3 then they're obviously thick as pig st so you are only going to end up with two reactions abuse from said party or a brake test.

I don't even bother with flashing I'll just move to the lane that's free and sail past.

Dashcam owner sounds like a tit but you should just have a bit of patience.

It's a continental thing. I wouldn't do the quick fire flashing as I think it can trigger the unhinged types like some kind of tt-epilepsy, but one second long flashes don't seem to cause others to suddenly want to have an accident.

I have two dash-cams in my car, one front and one rear. They are permanently recording in the event someone prangs me either moving or parked but neither LCD screens are illuminated as I want them to be discreet and to be honest, out of my way and not a distraction. I encounter nobs daily, but never have I pointed to my camera, I'd find it hilarious if I thought anyone even cared, and I'm certainly not going to waste my life making dashcam compilations or sending clips of nob-ish driving to the police, as long as no "incident" occurred that might help someone.

I've returned to my parked car before and out of interest looked at the latest footage. It's usually 1. people staring at the car and 2. then pointing at the front camera before fking off. Rear camera seems to get a reaction as it's fairly obviously pointing at someone if they're riding my bumper, and they soon back off for fear of being reported, I suppose. Who knows, but I haven't had any negative effects from having them fitted.

As for a lot of dash-cammers on Youtube, it looks like they go looking for trouble, make a huge scene out of nothing and in some cases are dangerous by unnecessarily slamming on brakes or sitting stationary in the middle of the road whilst gesturing.

You are well within your right to flash your headlights, the use of flashing headlights is to alert other road users of your presence. However a lot of people don't understand this and see it as an aggressive signal.

I'm having front and rear cameras fitted on Thursday week having had a run in with a woman (I won't call her a lady) who came around a sharp bend in the middle of the road and hit my wing mirror (I was pretty much stationary as I thought she was going to take the front of the car off). She hit me then had the cheek to say i'd hit her.

Turns out with the same insurer and she wanted to contest it, no independent witnesses so instead of paying my excess i'll pay for the replacement glass (£180!!) and a couple of cameras to be professional fitted.

Yep, don't get it. I once recorded a journey but was so critical of my driving that I ended up deleting most of the footage. nuts

Exactly. If the left lane is clear, just blast past them and get on with your day.

Drivers forcing their 'rights' and 'opinions' onto others is half the problem these days. That old British moaning mentality and a desperate need to police things themselves.

I had an amusing road rage incident last week. Too long and boring to get into the nitty gritty of it but it ended up with a guy following me for ages, just to call me a 'cock' after I'd parked up, and then drove off again. Weirdo. He was exercising his 'right' to force his opinion onto me, for what gain to himself? Just a waste of petrol and time.

I'd be more concerned at the critique of my awful taste in music. There's no way I'd ever upload evidence of me singing along to Taylor Swift just to prove that the traffic light was actually red.
