Most people who use these and post to update their 'channel' are morons. If you ever watch these channels, you will see so many making a situation worse. It's as if they want to cause an accident to make the camera footage better. Defensive driving seems non existent when some utilise a camera.

Dashcams do have a use. Specifically when a genuine incident takes place and footage could be helpful. However, it seems that most use these tools now to try and emphasise a point. Some drivers with cams are now worse than some cyclists with cams.

I'm guessing he was on his weekly outing to collect footage for his youtube channel. Seems like there's plenty of videos out there of non-incidents, or the dashcam driver speeding up when they spot someone who dares move into their lane, to deliberately engineer a "situation".

If you're lucky they'll also include a slow motion replay of the non-incident rolleyes

yes

One called 'Driving Derby' springs to mind. Lots of non-incidents and the driver actually making things worse. smile

Jesus, I just wasted 10 minutes of my life watching that tosser. But the thing is, he is 50%+ of motorists on the road these days.

hehe

His channel popped up on my YouTube main screen, so I took a look. What a waste of time that was.

It's as if he is always correct and everyone else is an ass.

There is an awful lot of dash cam footage that is absolutely drivel.

There's some cracking footage of real idiots on there and then there's videos of people making the odd mistake that was hardly worth mentioning and they've made it to Youtube.

I have a dash cam, something I just keep running to cover my own back rather than to play high and mighty. Oddly I find that I actually find myself trying that bit harder to be correct in my driving because you're being watched all the time.

Sadly, there are many jumped up know it all types who think they're right and their dash cam proves it. Those types of people would jump at the chance to capture all the idiots, irony being that for some unknown reason these people come across more 'idiots' than the rest of us.

I have one in my car.

Not because I wanted one but because it made my finance payments lower (put the finance in the next APR bracket by a few pence so reduced the monthly).

The most exciting thing I have caught is a cyclist falling off his bike at some red lights.

They seem mandatory in Russia, something to do with people throwing themselves in front of cars to make an injury claim I have read somewhere.

Have a look on YouTube for Dash Camera footage from there. It's safe to say nobody has successfully driven from A-B in Russia without having an almighty bang!

Seriously, people film this crap and then post it up on their own YouTube channel yikes

I must be on a few then as I have no patience with the central lane hoggers on the A13 near to me and if all is quiet like to blat past the inside of them and then create a bit of over run out of the exhaust at 107db's. Wakes a few up and gets a few hand signals aimed at me hehe

I'm sure based on reading this thread I must make a few of them deeply happy once they have got home, edited out their own crap driving at 60mph in the middle lane of an empty 3 lane road and entered a few choice words about the other cars on the road. W@nkers, the lot of them.

Yep, don't get it. I once recorded a journey but was so critical of my driving that I ended up deleting most of the footage. nuts
I'd be more concerned at the critique of my awful taste in music. There's no way I'd ever upload evidence of me singing along to Taylor Swift just to prove that the traffic light was actually red.
I'm sensing some bad blood.

hehe to both ^

See, to me there are just two provisos if you're a dashcammer : i) ensure your taste in music is not ever recorded on any given video and ii) only speak with an estuary accent whereby every other driver is a faaacking caaaaahnt

He also is being recorded, lets hope he shows his mates if he has any, so they can tell him what a tw.a.t he is on the road.

Drivers forcing their 'rights' and 'opinions' onto others is half the problem these days. That old British moaning mentality and a desperate need to police things themselves.
Using a full beam flash to let someone know you are there is not forcing your right onto someone though, it is merely waking them up to the fact you are there and that there are two empty lanes to their left. If they don't move then nothing lost.

I use it several times a week on motorways and probably only monthly get a coffee beans sign normally from the dashcam idiots pointing at their camera as I pass. If they were less self righteous they would wake up to the fact they weren't paying attention or driving properly.

As for passing on the left, if they aren't that awake to see you coming up behind they certainly won't be awake enough to actually check their left mirror before they move and side swipe you. Explain that to your insurance company.
