Nope, the Leon ST is 307mm longer, boot capacity 587 L seats up, 1470 L seats down. Plus extra storage below variable boot floor. The Hatchback's boot capacity is 380L / 1210L 5door, 3 door slightly less.
Was talking about the Octavia's.

Now you've made me look!

Hatch 4,659mm long

Estate 4,659mm long

I guess we're probably both right wink

civic hatchback and estate is 4,370mm (4,590mm)

The estate holds one of the biggest boots in the estate range

That's a large dog thumbup
Christ I thought my lab was big.

Saying that, we have friends with an 80k+ Great Dane - it should be reclassified as a horse. Wonderful thing tho.
She is also a Great Dane. Being a bh (only one in the house post divorce) she's a good size but nowhere near the size of a male. They can be 100Kg+

Yep, Octavia saloon is a bigger vehicle than Leon hatch, albeit on same platform, also Octavia estate is slightly bigger than Leon, about 100mm longer iirc.

Any Passat estate that suits your budget.
I think I may be priced on the passat looking further into it, really looking for no more than 3 years old and no more than 30k, just a couple Ks over my budget. Looking a bit more into it Im prob looking about £13k, needing £15-16k for passat. I couple prob look for 4 year old but would like to keep the car for 4 years
They're a bit boring but workhorses. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds?CarTypeFF=E... - quite a few here. Whenever I have needed a car to stick everything in, and eat miles, a Passat has helped me out. I have also found that the interiors can take an absolute beating and still clean up ok.

For dogs, I'd suggest:

Boot Buddy

or

Hatch Bag

or cheapskate option (cut to fit)

3mm Rubber mat ribbed (for anti slip or pleasure)

I'm going with option 3 as my soon to arrive Golf Estate is a lease, so can't be bothered spending too much on a boot liner.

I've already spent £460 on fitted faux leather seat covers to protect them against the mutt. Can't tell you how good or otherwise the seat covers are as they haven't arrived yet, but available from Seatskinz. I've gone for red perforated leather/red leather with Lapiz blue stitching. Dog managed to pick some of the stitching from the leather seats in the back of an E Class lease and don't fancy it happening again.

No, I don't work for any of those companies :-)

SUVs difficult to park! What bks.

Anyway. RRS. Easy to drive and park (extra easy with reversing cam). Can be lowered for easier access. Room for child seats. Add recoverable load space proctor, dog guard and divider. Job done.

Yip that is exactly what I need...however I cant budget for a RRS, the boot is a massive 784 L.

Having looked a bit further into things tonight, I think I'm going to really look into the VW Touran MPV, cheaper than the S max and is going to do exactly what I need

Also take a look at the Mazda 5 as it also has a decent sized boot & they normally come well equipped

I would just get an older large estate car mate. Loads of space, lower entry for the dog and you do t have to be presides about it.

You have kids and a dog - it's probably going to be pretty messy inside most of the time.

How about a Subaru Legacy Estate?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

We've got an Outback version of this and it's massive on the inside - plenty of room for 2 kids and a dog.

I did have a quick look yesterday on the used VW pages, your budget of £13,000 for a sub 3 yo 30,000 miler brought up (only) three examples. All 1.6 diesels. Auto trader has 63, all 1.6 diesel.

We've had a 2.0 sport for past 7 years , (same one, 35k to 105k miles).

I really like the 2.0 engine, bags of torque, returns 50+ mpg on a decent run, tows a 1200kg caravan with ease, tows a 750kg trailer tent as if it's not there.

But it looks like another £1,500 for this over the 1.6.

Can also get a 1.4 petrol which seems to be thirsty, and a 1.2 petrol which I fail to see how it could move a car of this size, fully laden with a trailer behind? (Although I haven't driven any other than mine).

I will have a look at the subaru's also.

I had a look a the VW Touran in autotrader and local dealers, and nationwide as a few dealers now will bring them up for you. There was a few in my budget but yes all 1.6 Diesel, I couldnt stretch to the 2.0. Its near impossible to find the petrol one and I agree the other 1.2 engine is a strange one.

The issue is whether or not I can justify the Diesel over a prob cheaper petrol estate as i dont think I'll be doing over 10k a year.

I was also warming to the i30 estate although not as much boot space as others, gets great reviews and will do the job, and well priced for me

Go for a petrol with that annual mileage.

Mazda with 13k on the clock (they also deliver to your nearest branch)

I would agree with the petrol choice but sometimes hard to get what I'm looking for in petrol, or very limited choice

Depends if you are going to tow or not. If you don't need to tow anything the petrol will be fine but probably have to be worked harder. Diesel is so popular in these due to the increased economy (albeit not on shorter trips) and the better low down torque making towing easier.

Slightly off topic, well more than slightly, but I once had a Tiguan with the 1.4 engine for a week during the Swedish round of the World Rally Championship.

Despite me behaving myself in it, honest, it was too slippery and icy to do anything else frankly, whilst it went sort of OK, never in human history has such a smallish engine used so much fuel. Maybe slight hyperbole, but not much tbh. Hate to think how the 1.2 copes.

Thanks for the info, quick look online and the boot is 560L any ideas if thats right for your model?

I have choped and changed my mind, but looking more into things today, I would say I'm going to look at an estate. SUV is going to be more costly to buy and run and my budget can only really look at an ix35 to tick the boxes. MPV I feel is maybe going just that too big, we dont holiday in the UK, or go over 10k a year milage so I think this may be too big.

Estate seems to tick the boxes more, I would prob opt for the passat but my budget prob wont allow, so Im going to prob keep an eye out for a good deal on a passat or honda if one comes along, if not my choice will be between the i30, i40, auris and astra based on cost, petrol engines available more

VW Passat - 650 L

Honda civic - 624 L

Hyundai i40 - 553 L

Vauxhall Astra NEW - 540 L

Toyota Auris - 530 L

Hyundai i30 - 528 L
