Cabin road noise will be higher in the estate, due to a less isolated boot
Appreciate the clarification.

What is every ones experience with this issue - is it significantly different to the saloon versions...?
Based on my experience including golf (hatch) v jetta (saloon) and Skoda superb hatch v estate and 3 series coupe v estate this comment is bang on.

Overall I still prefer estate cars.
Whilst I’m a huge cynic to the marketing spin, and not paying extra for it, Audi’s ‘acoustic glass’ actually does nuke the usual extra road noise from an estate. Recommended

Also 20 bars of Yorkie and always plenty of bottled water.
That's just gluttony!

If I kept 20 bars of yorkies in the boot there would soon be very few yorkies in the boot.

Milky Way or Mars Bars are options too or the lovely lion bar. Mans food.

Yep, the OH doesn't get my RS4 at all, and to her it's inferior to our Qashqai in almost every way. Not least due to its inability to get into supermarket carparks!

The fact it can do this with ease, whilst the boot is full of luggage, doesn't seem to factor:

How do you struggle in car parks with what is really a fairly small car these days?
Yes, but other cars can be big and park very close by wink

Just got back from a few nights away by the Welsh coast, it was the first real run that the new 320D has had since picking it up a couple of weeks ago.

It's the first estate that I have personally owned and after coming from an Audi A5 coupe, I prefer the ease of an estate.

Picked it up with 171k on the clock through a good friend of a colleague at work who has owned it for the last 12 years.

Over the past week I've changed the Continental run-flats for much comfier GoodYear Efficient Grips and a 'get me home' kit in the boot, new pads and discs on the front and stopped the annoying exhaust rattle that I was getting at low revs.

For those who have not experienced the extra noise a way to get similar nois in a hatchback is to get rid of parcel shelf then lay the back seats flat.
That will also reduce weight and make the car handle better wink

Recently sold the wife's Mk5 Astra and replaced it with a V50 Sport... oh I know... lucky lady... however it also takes the household estate car count to three and frankly, I wouldn't be without them. The old, slightly tired one works hard and is rarely not carrying furniture, crap for the tip or as it did last weekend, a Bosch fridge freezer. The recently acquired V50 is far better for day in, day out use more so with a baby on board as the sheer amount of crap needed for even the most basic of trips was proving too much for the Astra. The final of the three, rarely gets used but when it does it too is usually fully loaded. I just don't see any disadvantage and certainly wouldn't even give the saloon versions of each a second look. I'd also be fairly confident in saying that I doubt I'd be without one.

My daily used to be a slightly hooligan 325ti Sport, but after just over 3 years I sold it and bought an E91 325i SE. Very refined, but it goes well enough when you let the revs head towards the red line! It's done 133K miles, but I'm really liking it. (And heated seats are handy just now)!

My first ever estate car in over 40 years BTW!

For the £ th y spent sourcing it then developing it thy could have simply bought the E39 M5 unit instead

Anyone else got an estate that they don't need but somehow just felt right?

Just spotted the Rovers numberplate above as well, very good!

I've got one and absolutely no reason to have one. I'm 27 with no kids just me and the mrs and no pets. Why did i get one i have no reason other than i've liked estates since I saw the B8 S4 which i know is odd but it was the fact it looked like a bog standard a4 avant but would destroy most cars in a strightline.

It's good for luggage though and putting things in for the tip, etc but yeh don't need one at all.
