As has already been suggested, there must be an equivalent Audi Estate that provides similar pace, for less. Albeit one with look at me lights and broken indicators.

Although I've not driven one, a W8 would be my preference. But looking at the comments above (how can anyone make a 4.0 W8 boring?!) is the best option to take the engine out of it and bung it in an R32 with a supercharger?

Oi! Blue32....

They did an a4 3.2FSI. I presume that came in estate format. Not as fast as ther36 though

You talk sensational sense yes
Can you get that with a manual? If so, do that FFS
Because a big fk off Passat with a DSG box is a real hardcore driving machine rofl
No, because the manual is WAY less likely to fail and WAY easier to fix meaning the car is less likely to kill you financially :yfssh:

DSGs are timebombs - all autos are risky at the best times but DSGs come down to "if it starts to misbehave you can swap sensors, flush it or replace it wholesale" and whilst it's nowhere near as costly as it was (a few brave folks will tear them down and repair em) it's still prohibitively expensive and kills more VW/Audis than almost anything else.

Don't think you can get the S6 as a manual, but you can get it as a proper auto rather than DSG. It ought to be a lot more reliable, and if it's anything like the S8 I owned previously, it'll just need a fluid change at around 90,000 miles.

Lots of people have reported gearbox issues with the C6 S6. They are largely electronics-related I think, and sometimes seem to resolve themselves (think there was at least one PHer who had scary warning lights just magically disappear), but when they do go wrong they're very, very, very expensive.

I know some people have reported issues with the 6-speed DSG fitted to the R36 and 3.6 CC (also typically electronics related), but I'd be hesitant about tarring them with the reputation of the earlier 6-speed boxes or the later 7-speed ones. I don't know whether they're better, worse or about as bad as those reported in the S6, but I doubt very much the S6 box is more reliable given its reputation.

I really like them.

Came so close to doing a private PX with a black saloon against my old 335d. Iirc it would have been a straight swap which would have valued it at around 12k 3/4 years ago.

Only reason I never went for it was because I was scared of the DSG box going wrong. They're probably understood more these days though.

This is far too obvious and unsubtle with it's big exhausts and shouty R badges on the back.

Should be Passat Estate 2.0TSi in bland silver/grey with an all silver TDI badge on the back. Hybrid turbo and Revo remap, sticky tyres, Eibach springs and Nitrons, harder pads, Motul 600 and Superflex bushes everywhere. Job done for £6k

But I would say that wouldn't I....... wink
Like your style, but I'd prefer to do that to a Golf Edition 30 dumbed down to look like a 1.6 FSI base model. Having said that, modified VWs are so blatantly obvious and common these days.

Well, TFSIs kick out enough smoke on boost to be a TDI smile And if the cam chain is worn out, they sound like one too. Good skills!

There was a Mk5 TDI 4Motion which would have been a good starting base for a sleeper. Not sure if the Passat came in that setup as well.

Nothing too daft... just a 2.0T 320bhp for now.

I really like these - evidently not a very PH thing to say given the article and people's objections in the Audi direction, but they just seem to be quite a good all rounder - no doubt capable of making motorway miles feel shorter.

Re: "The R36 marked the last time any European market Passat was allowed an engine with more than four cylinders."

In Germany the successor B7 was still sold with the same engine, albeit not called R36. I don't know whether it was sold in RHD as well.

Personally think 12k is far too expensive for what they are. I recently sold an 06 550i for around 9 which is far more desirable proposition imo.

An R36 estate is exactly the sort of car i would want. But i really cant get my head around the price of them

But in 3 years time it will be still worth more than a 3 year old MK7 Golf R.

Low miles ones maybe, but by that time that one will have broken 110-120K. Cant see demand being high.
