But in 3 years time it will be still worth more than a 3 year old MK7 Golf R.
I'll eat my shoes if that statement is correct...
Yea, surely the value of these still has further to fall

An eight-year-old Passat, with over 80k on the clock, for twelve grand? I think you can do a lot better for the money, maybe a V10 Audi S6 for example.
+1

An R36 estate is exactly the sort of car i would want. But i really cant get my head around the price of them

Low miles ones maybe, but by that time that one will have broken 110-120K. Cant see demand being high.
Even the low miles ones won't be worth that much I reckon. Maybe I'm wrong but I just can't see a Passat estate/saloon holding any kind of value long term and I love these things!

I have had an R36 Estate for years.

It's close to the perfect car for me. It's an understated looking family car thats fun to drive. A lot of people dont even know its anything special, they see just a Passat and I like that. It doesn't look too flash, yet if you plonk it into sports mode, you can really feel the engine work. It drinks fuel like crazy when letting it loose though!

It's only after so many years of ownership that I am considering selling mine as I fancy a change, but I can not fault this car one bit.

Just what I needed...a bloomin' YKYWT story pushing prices and competition for these cars higher. I just love the way they're understated but sonly purposeful.

I'm genuinely going to be in an Insignia 2.8T 4x4 Tourer at this rate.

I can't see any other way of getting a powerful 4wd v6/v8 estate car that isn't either 10yrs old* or got a load of miles under the belt^. (*^These last 2 points are conditions of the Mrs!)

I like these cars a lot, but a few downsides IMO

1) The VED- £490? That's a lot!
2) It doesn't like twisty roads much. For me that is a big negative because you are left with an A Road/M'way cruiser where a 3 litre TDI would make more sense.
3) The weight- 1700KG+ for a Passat is a lot!
4) For the BHP it isn't really all that fast, 0-100 in the 14s bracket...no faster than a 330d touring, before the re-map!

A few grand more gets you into a TFSI S4, which is much faster, will handle better and probably use less fuel.....

Still glad It exists though....have always loved my Q-cars.
The weight is not too bad, considering it's an estate car designed 8 years ago that can seat 5 with all their luggage. Compared to the brand new Jag F Type R, which can seat two with no boot to speak of, and still manages to weigh in at 1825kg with the optional carbon brakes, the Passat is a masterpiece of lightweight engineering by comparison!
