Anyone been to Malaga this year and able to reccomend a car hire company or broker? I need a berlingo or similar (I know I know!!)

Used to use brokers such as CarJet or DoYouSpain 5 or 6 years ago now, but they seem to favour companies now with very poor reviews and unfavourable fuel policies. I have in my mind we used to use AurigaCrown or Goldcar but no idea whether these companies still offer reasonable levels of service.

Needs to be on airport too please?

Excellent company and good prices. Used them loads in many countries, never had a problem. You can choose which rental company you are using too.

Just to correct the name: http://www.benalmadenacars.net . Used Carlos last year to provide a car for my daughter based on recommendations here and she was delighted with the cost, car and service.

Just looking now, thank you. Don't suppose you remember which companies you have used in Spain by any chance? Loads on there I've never heard of: Niza, Marbesol, RecordGo etc etc.

I was going to just stump up for one of the big boys but Enterprise want £421 for a Berlingo for 5 days. I'm not buying it!

We managed to get a bit more but took a long time and lots of phone calls/arguing over policy terms - all in all I think we got about £1k back from a £2.5k claim. We had 'gadget' cover but because I just said on the form that everything belonged to 'us' they said we were only covered for up to £300. They freely admitted that had I said the iPad was mine, the sat-nav belonged to my 8 month old, phones belonged to my 5 year old they'd have paid up to £300 per person!!!! Couldn't believe it, kind of encourages people to lie on their insurance form doesn't it....wish I knew that before

We used a malaga rental company beginning with "M"... Never again!!!

Looks cheap but when you get to the site they hard-sell their expensive insurance. If you don't take it then they forensically examine your car when you return it and inevitably find something to charge you with.

Seriously it's worth paying extra for a reputable company in order to avoid the stress.

Malaga itself is beautiful. Recommend the bike tours for a way of finding out more about the city. Also AC Palacio roof terrace has great views across the whole city, worth a drink up there.

I usually go for the one of the big boys to be honest.

Having read your link I can see why you have now changed your username laugh

I have commented on the original thread, Perhaps you could let us know what happened with the travel insurance company in the end?

I researched Trip Advisor and this came up so have booked through them for a holiday near Malaga next week - seems to be an all-in, no rip off pacakage.
http://www.brunoscar.com/malaga-and-gibraltar-rent...

The other company that came up, in similar vein, was http://www.bsafecarhire.com/ but they were more expensive for the car I needed.

Regardless, find an on-airport company. Last time, I used Centauro and was shuttled to some outskirt I had difficulty finding again, on the return leg and the Fiat Panda they gave me had nearly bald rear tyres so never again. The shuttle services also tend to bring out the angry and violent side of who was queuing/waiting first. Malaga may be lovely but once in, i got hopelessly lost and it took a long time to get the hell out so airport, airport, airport.

With benalmadenacars it's a meet and greet and they walk you to the car, so there's no queuing up at a desk or bus transfer. No hassle with fuel - bring it back about the same.

The only thing I was slightly bothered about (as it was my daughter hiring and she breaks everything) is he won't waive the excess completely - think it was max €240. So bought a waiver policy for about £15. However wasn't needed.

Yep. Last year I had to suffer a three and a half hour queue to pick up a car from them. When I left, the queue was the still the same length.

And the car was a shed.

I asked a similar question last year and used this company for a Berlingo.

http://www.hellehollis.com/

Car was spot on and so was the whole process. I'd use them again.

I use helle Hollie out of Malaga regularly. Very honest, cars are fine, good prices. The shuttle to the terminal is very regular.
