Mercs de-activate the compressor if the system loses gas and I think this is why a re-set is required. So if you try to DIY or some other "cheap fix" I suspect it won't be a fix.
Exactly the reason it's in on Friday, if you google it it seems a reset is also needed, not something you can do yourself without the correct software, lead, knowledge
OP, I have the same car with the issue, can you please update us after the indy visit?

Thanks....smile
Yes I will, it's in tomorrow, reading a bit more it could just be a reset as I took the battery off for 3 months when I went away earlier in the year, tucked the car away in the garage and left it. It seems they don't like it too much, I had to reset the Windows but that was quite easy.

That is a real coincidence, I work on a cruise ship and do just the same thing. Looking forward to hearing how it goes tomorrow....smile

All working fine now, the check revealed a low pressure warning but no leaks from the nitrogen test, so a regas and a reset of the system was needed. The guy thought it probably had never been regassed before but it wouldn't have worked without resetting the system and clearing the fault codes so the halfords kit or going to kwik fit would have been no good

Thanks for the update, and glad you got it sorted. This bodes well hopefully for mine then, when I finally get home. So I basically need to find an Indy who has the STAR equipment and also does air-con. Anyone know of such a place in the Shropshire/Midlands area?

Hmmmmm bit of an update, it stopped blowing cold after about 2 weeks, took it back and they reconnected it to the star machine. Low pressure again so basically it's all leaked out again, they think it's a leak somewhere in the depths of the car and would need to take a lot of parts of to get to it. Obv a lot of labour involved there, so as it is its September now and won't probably need the air con until next year now anyway I'm leaving it as is, shame.

False economy. Fix it now and avoid contaminants getting further into the system, making it a more expensive repair.

Also remember that aircon is exceptionally good at clearing mist/condensation inside the car on cold days.

It won't be a more expensive repair later as never worked anyway since I had it so I'm not doing it. I'm not chucking up to £1000 at a £9000 car to have cold air esp when the roof comes off anyway

Just thought I'd add to the thread.

I just had my car air con regassed and a free odour/bacteria removal treatment from WeChillAnyCar.com.

I have no connection with the company, but they're mobile so will come to you and the customer service was excellent as they talked me though all the steps they'd taken.

Price was £59.99 including the free odour/bacteria removal treatment, which is competitive against the garages!

We had a three day trip around southern England to make mid-April and it was hot, very hot, up to 29C on one day. By the end of day one we realised the car's A/C wasn't as cold as it should have been, there was no cooling at all, it was just blowing through ambient temperature air.
I checked the nearest A/C specialists but none were able to help so I resigned myself to buying a D-I-Y kit from Halfords or similar - until I spotted on their website that they offered an A/C recharge service for £30, using a bottle of gas they sell for £49.99 and the 'quick charge gun' they sell for £79.99. It was done in less than 30 minutes, I was given the part empty bottle and a month later it's still nicely chilled.
I see the cost of the service has now increased to £40 (page 2):

but it's worth remembering should the need arise.
