Meanwhile.... A fella I know has had a string of Mercedes S-Class for as long as I can remember. Not a single thing has gone wrong ever. The only time its had to go away is because he pranged it himself.

Reading this thread again & thinking about it, I could start the same thread about BMW, Mini, JLR, Bentley, VAG, Citroen & Merc, the cars & the dealers, based on my experiences looking after the cars at work.

We have had issues with some or all of their products we have had.

One dealer in particular has become a real pain since being bought by a much larger group.

Only one I would praise to the rafters is Porsche. Our local OPC is excellent. Nothing ever seems to go wrong with the cars & nothing is too much trouble for them if I need help & that's in over 10 years dealing with them.

OP. Maybe you should have a go with another dealer in future.
Err.. are you sure, Porsche as far as I know are one of the few manufacturers who've had a lawsuit taken out against them over the reliability of certain engines! I'm amazed you've worked with them for 10 years yet have experienced no problems, I don't work within the industry but personally know 911/Boxster owners who have been in the nightmare position of engine failures.

OP, sounds a bad start to ownership and a poor effort by the dealer, I would make sure you or your fleet manager have a good chat with the service manager at the dealer and let your feelings be known, hopefully when you get it back next time it'll be the end of the problems.

A few years back I was considering buying a Porsche Cayman but reports of various engine problems put me off, and when I was told by someone at the OPC to make sure I had a warranty on anything over 3 years old I lost all interest.

No issues at all.

3 Boxters, 2 Cayenne`s & 1 Macan later & all is good. Im sure a purist will be along shortly to tell me they are not real Porsches!

Sort of sums the thread up really.

Your car may be good, your dealer may be good, or if you`re the OP, both may be bad...... Its sometimes the luck of the draw.

Not with Porsche, they've had a number of serious and expensive engine faults that weren't just down to random chance, bore scoring and IMS/RMS problems if I remember correctly.
