ZF Auto gearbox not MC Shift( Robotised) but with the 2014 Sport they made exhaust noisier and shift map different so for me it gives me the noise and quicker shifts on the auto but not the Brutalness of the MC Shift box which is awesome Yes but only when on it full chat.
Round town or in normal driving I couldnt get on with it.
Thanks I had the 4.2 auto when they came out and it wasn't too good, but I desperately want another one as my daily, main issue is I do 35k a year ish.

Done it in 997's which were ok, sacrilege I know but what the MPG like on a run ?

Thanks

Do they still provide a complimentary prayer book and hotline to the Vatican to aid with reliability?

There have been times I've wondered about a Maser and always concluded it's a BMW/Jag to buy but a Ferrari to run.

I do want one muchos! Selling the 996TT and want something with a bit more drama at below 100 (great car it is though)!

Can you get Masser warranties on them once they have lapsed?

Yes, I looked into them when I bought my 997, running costs looked about 4x higher than the 997 due to 6000 mile intervals with £800 minimum charge, vs 20,000 miles in the Pork & more like half that cost per service
Of particular concern was an indi telling me that I could save some money on brake disks by not using Maserati branded and instead fitting the Ferarri 599 part
This is terrifying. This car is on my to-do list but I'm not so sure now.

Oh that's priceless, I love that! biglaugh As an owner I probably won't find it quite so amusing should I need some replacement brake discs mind.

I think the XKR 5.0 would be a lot faster in a line, and better equipped with toys like adaptive cruise, DAB etc, and way cheaper to run. But nowhere near the exclusivity or badge, and I like XKRs. I'd say a competitor is more like the DBS but for the same money you're buying one that's a 3-4 years older. V12 though yum
I've been toying with the idea of an XKR 5.0 as my next car after having a few drives of my brother XFR and realising that a 4dr isn't essential for whatever replaces my ISF. You are right about it being faster and better equipped but the GranTurismo just has that road presence that the XKR could never match (excluding the XKR-S). I'm sure I saw one going through a trade auction recently with a guide price of £22k. It was an early 4.2 auto. Sorely tempting at that kind of price!

I have had my MC Shift with sports handling pack and sportline trim for almost 4 years now.

The suspension is a bit stiff for small bumpy roads (as I have the sports handling pack), it is a bit too low for London (as I have the sports handling pack so it is dropped 10mm), it is a large car ..but you know what you get used to it and the noise, the looks, inside and outside is sublime.

The space inside is amazing. There is no other 2+2 that beats it (a part from the FF which can match it). I can fit two properly grown adults in the back and go on a tour with luggage. The positive responses you get from everyone on the looks and the noise just makes you smile.

Can't imagine what I would swap it for.

No, the official Maserati warranty can't be extended beyond a certain age (5 years, I think).

Which should tell you everything you need to know about how much confidence Maserati has in it's own products. wink

If you read the buying guide and listen to owner feedback, you'll find a modern Maser is as reliable as the German marques these days! smile

I don't think the German marques are that reliable these days either so not really saying much tbh (ask me how I know). smile

I've always found it a bit odd that someone like Kia can offer a 7 year warranty on a £10k car and the so called premium marques can't on cars which cost many times that. Yes arguably the more expensive cars are more complicated but then that's what you pay the extra for.

I just have a bee in my bonnet lately about "premium" marques who regularly seem to release cars with major issues which really shouldn't occur so don't mind me. smile

How you enjoying it?

MC Shift?
Contigo - I think I remember your username from the M power forum - how does the Granturismo stack up against the V10 M5/6 in terms of -

- performance
- overall ownership experience and running costs
- is the MC shift much different from SMG?

Thanks,
Stu

Hi Stu yes was me, had an M5 Touring a few years back which I am told has now just been written off by the guy I sold it too, OUCH! He got a good payout though.

Performance is close to M5 but not quite there, the M5 has more horses so it's an unfair comparison (440 Vs 507)
Ownership experience so far has been great, the car I bought was from a dealer and it needed a new clutch and variators so they did that work as part of the deal. The EPB failed two weeks in (if you buy one don't even think about using it if parked for say more than a couple of days!). and that is being done next week, new hub, discs, shoes and few other bits. Thank God for Consumer rights and warranty, just like M5 you really need a good warranty on one of these as there is the potential for big bills every now and then.

SMG-II in the M5 is pretty slow at times, the MC Shift is lightning quick and a better box imo.

If you ever want to meet at a show (doing Brunty this weekend and Brands Hatch next) then pop along and have a look over it. They are glorious machines.

Autoprotect and another company do them.

12 months Autoprotect warranty, £120 per hour labour rate inc VAT, £3000 claim limit per claim, £1022 inc IPT
24 months Autoprotect warranty, £120 per hour labour rate inc VAT, £3000 claim limit p/claim, £1892 inc IPT

Thanks for the reply,

I have a V10 M6 and have a strong urge towards a Granturismo whenever I decide to replace it. Interesting that the MC shift is quicker than SMG. I actually think SMG isn't that bad so any improvement would be a bonus.

Thanks for the offer, I'm in N.Ireland but would love a closer look around a GT sometime.

Thanks early cars are now down to about £19-£22k

How terrible are the running costs on these for say 10k per annum (apart from fuel...)

They seem an incredible amount of car for the money!

I think you’ve got to be willing to drop £2k-£3k a year and you might get away with less

Mine was £5k of work over 2 years excluding a service (!)

Loved it and would have it back right now tbh nothing sounds like it

Tempting...

You could lose than in depreciation alone on something more sensible and I can't see these dropping much past 15/16k to be honest.
