I want to transfer my private plate from a vehicle i wish to sell to another vehicle I own.

Is this the way I have to do it online?

Step 1. Take the registration no. off the Vehicle for £80.00

Step 2. Then use the online rention number to put the number on the other vechicle? Not sure of the cost of this part?

Or is there a simple transfer process I can use, i seem to remeber it being cheaper to transfer a plate than retain then reassign?

Go to the DVLA website and you can do it online.

You can either transfer the number directly to the next vehicle in most situations - or you can put it on to a Retention Certificate for transferring later.

As Davel says, the DVLA have made this so simple now, it's pretty much instant in fact.

Thanks, you wouldnt have a link for this would you? I can only find two seperate processes, one to retain and one to put the registration on to a vehicle.

Not one to transfer directly from one to another.

Well you start with 'taking it off' and pretty sure it guides you through from there.

You can't do a direct transfer. It's transfer onto retention and then onto a vehicle unfortunately

No, I tried that, just goes through to making payment for the £80.00 to retain, no other options.... hmmmmm...

Thanks, this certainly looks to be the case. They probably make more money that way, im sure it used to be much cheaper to just move the plate so you dont pay the rention fee.
