Can anyone help with this one.

We get paid a basic salary and also commision and bonus on top of this.

Our payslip only shows Basic/Commision/Bonus and does not break down or indicate what makes up the commision and bonus amounts.

Our employer claims it cannot be shown on the payslip as its handled by an outside company and that a breakdown cannot be provided to individuals as it would be too time consuming?!

Therefore we keep track of what we think we should be getting paid but it is very rarely the same as what we receive.

The amount usually is close to what is expected...for example, calculated to expect £100 but receive £91.18. Although sometimes it can be well off.

Should our employer be providing us with this information...they seem to think it is ok just for seemingly random amounts to be paid.

TIA

Which payroll bureau produces your payslips?

Your employer is probably telling the truth, if it is one of the bureaus I am thinking of, even their programmers don't really know how the payroll calculates.

However, someone somewhere must have defined the rules that were given to the payroll provider to create the formula which calculates your pay. So I would ask for them - the payroll department should have them on file.

Unless it was setup years ago and now is lost in the mists of time ...

They're right in that it can't be shown on the payslip, but not telling you how they arrived at the gross number is total bks. Most companies will provide this number, at most on a quarterly basis, or at the vary least tell you the criteria and sales value (as an example) it's based on, so you can calc yourself.

If the commission was subject to audit, they would have to produce something.
