At the end of the first week of the summer holidays, I cleaned the family bus at the weekend.

Ideally I'd like manufacturers to offer actual options, rather than which shade of grey / black carpet do you want. Having spent ages trying to clean sand out of carpets, I'd like something like vinyl flooring or rubber that I can just vacuum and then give a wipe down if required.

Same with seats. Our last two cars have had fabric which develops water marks if anything gets spilled on them, including rainwater that invetiably runs off the roof and through a window as they've stopped fitting proper gutters to cars. I don't want leather, just something that can withstand kids.

Again with the storage. 5 seat car, with 7 cup holders, but only 1 sunglass holder. We've got two glove boxes and a cubby hole in between them. A single large box would be better than three smaller boxes. Encourage people not to hold their phone in their hand when driving, by actually creating a space where it fits and doesn't shoot out when you go round the first corner.

Transit Custom sized van with a petrol V8 and RWD smile

Engine choices in vans are dreadful!
Leyland Sherpa is only slightly bigger and could be had with the V8 engine. As always, BL make all our dreams come true biggrin

itls the sherpa 300 / LDV 400 / Convoy that came in V8 form for public order vans and ambulances in the main , not the sherpa 200 / LDV200 / pilot

Something like a modern LCC Rocket...
Did they actually sell any of those ridiculous things? I doubt it.
Really? Why are you on Pistonheads exactly?! Apparently you don't like cars and fun... :-)
Apparently you can't recognise a disaster when you see one! So come on then - do tell us how many LCC Rockets the great St Gordon of Murray actually managed to sell to lofty, fun-loving enthusiasts such as yourself....

Here we go,

http://www.pistonheads.com/features/ph-features-ne...

"Unless you are one of the ... forty people out there already acquainted with the single-mindedness of two mens’ collective vision on what a light weight sports car should be. That’s how many were sold during the Light Car Company’s first two attempts to survive out in the big wide world.

" it came at a price - cool £38,800 in fact. And that was back in 1992. “I don’t think they made a penny on any they sold. In fact, I think they lost about £4,000 for every one they sold.”

Hopefully St Gordon's "new-TVR" will NOT follow the same pathway to oblivion.

Yeah, c'mon scubadude, tell us!

Like, Ferrari only sold 39 250GTOs and Ford have sold over a million Focuses, so it's evident that the Focus is 300,000 times better than the GTO. Obviously.

From the same article:

"But I like all that, and I think you will too. The Rocket is an experience, not an appliance. This isn’t about popping to the shops: it’s about a carefully planned weekend excursion or a hardcore trackday."

"Tug the lever back for first, get underway and the Rocket begins to overwhelm your senses. The throttle is millimetre-perfect, so you have to tread carefully for fear of kangarooing like a drunkard."

"Gradually though, you and the Rocket begin to click. ... But even by the end of three days of driving, you can never, ever, fully acclimatise to the performance, or the noise."

"With low ratio engaged, it is so visceral, so eye-wateringly rapid beyond 8,000rpm that you keep questioning how it can possibly be road legal. Each lightning-fast upshift winds you in the pit of the stomach."

"Confidence has returned with experience. On tighter roads, the fingertip-light steering, grippy chassis and Porsche 911-esque handling start to make sense. You can take liberties, pile into a second gear bend, lift-off to unsettle the weight balance then gas it to capitalise on the broken grip. And it doesn’t bite you. Cue one very large grin."

"Yet in super car terms, for the experience, the engineering purity and bespoke specification, it’s a steal. Small wonder Luke Craft has already sold five before the first reviews have even appeared."

Sounds like the OP requires a Mk3 MR2 roadster, it almost exactly meets all his criteria.

I'd like a large saloon and/or coupe with a large (3.0l+) NA petrol straight six, RWD, 6spd manual transmission, manually adjustable squishy cloth seats, small steel wheels with big fat tyres, soft comfortable fixed suspension, a cd player and that's it. Basically like a Ford Crown Victoria with a more up to date engine, manual box and RHD.

I'm sure there was a near identical thread on this subject recently but can't find it. I'd like a simple car with an engine with decent performance. A sleeper essentially. Something that looks like a cooking model but goes like a performance one. And with as few toys, gizmos and st to go wrong as possible. No infotainment system, just knobs and switches.

What you've described there is a BMW E39. Loads of them about and cheap too.

An older M3 with badges removed could tick that box very easily.

Something I would have liked to have them build ( probably in the past now but I'd still like one ) is a Mk1 Orion converted to rwd. Small by 3-box saloon standards but big enough for my needs, space to seat 4 (5 occasionally), pretty narrow for all types of roads, sunroof, ABS, power train from the Cosworth

Shorter and narrower than a 3-series with 4-doors
Obviously weigh more than the original sub 900kg but about 1000-1025kg all in, fully trimmed. Performance with about 220bhp would be more than good enough. Look something like below and 35mpg cruising

If Mazda would get on and build an AWD 3 MPS, no bonnet scoop that would be great! And 320bhp...

My current car is now at 85,000 miles and I am definitely going to have to change it next year.

The 2.3 turbo in it is a great engine IMHO, and is one of the sweetest 4 pot lumps I've ever had. Gear change remains positive and notchy all these miles in.

So come on Mazda, get on with it!!!
