So I take it no one knows why there are more cameras on the main carriageways rather just the ones at the beginning & the end of a carriageways.

Exactly if you travel from A to D & your average speed is say 73mph but between B to C you averaged 80mph, in my mind you shouldn't be prosecuted because it should be your average speed until you either reach the end of the cameras or when you turn off anywhere in between then you average speed should be worked then.

So basically the extra cameras are there for extra revenue.

If you averaged 80 between points B & C, then unless you were doing a constant 80, there would have been points when you were doing over 80 to obtain an 80 average. Either way, why shouldn't you be prosecuted?

The answer is to not exceed the limit. That way, they get no revenue, regardless of the number of cameras.

Even you have exceeded the limit at sometime in your life unless you don't drive, but cheers for the helpful insight.

My point is your speed should be worked out from the first camera you pass & then the last camera as that is your true average speed through that section.

A stretch of road (might be a motorway, might not) has a speed limit which is advised by the appropriate speed sign at the start and enforced by average speed cameras at various points along its length. That speed limit applies right along the road until another sign signifies it has ended. It doesn't mean that you may exceed that speed at any point.

Indeed I have. I have even been done for speeding. But as I was speeding, I didn't bleat about it.

At what point was I bleating?

I haven't been done for speeding, I was curious & thought I'd see what the PH consensus was.
