^^^ This. If it's too small, buy a 3-series. Not difficult.

I've owned 135i (the first gen coupe) and at 6'2" I have enough room but found the seats too narrow - the side bolsters pinched my back and I could never really get comfy.

Lady trumpton owned an X1 for 3 years and although more roomy, still had the same st seats
Just a thought your lordship, but is the problem really that the seats are too narrow or is your regal girth a bit too much of a wide load?

I never had a problem with the seats in my E87 1 series - they had electric adjustment for the bolster width so I could get them nice and snug! laugh

I'm 5'11 and broad shouldered, current 1 series I fit in fine, 800 mile day comfort. I don't think a 3 series will help you, the difference is behind the front seats. 4 series is a little broader.

Original 1 series had front seats bases that were too narrow for me, couldn't buy one because of that.

Yeah I'm a big bloke; but not a fat bd. I spent ages in the gym in my earlier years and have a broad back - my arse is comfy in the seats; it's just the backrest that pinches my back.

I guess I'm a powerfully built company director tongue out

I'm 7'6" and weigh 38 stone and have 3 really tall children and a missus that is 6'11" and we all fit in ours no problem. And with enough storage space in the boot to fit the tent and enough food for a couple of weeks camping as we don't trust foreign stuff.

So basically OP, you're either telling lies, or you actually test drove the new 0.75 series without realising it.
Do you by any chance call this place home?

Have to agree, I sat in a 5-door of the newest shape 1 Series in a showroom and felt cramped in the drivers seat, I'm only about 6'1".

Leg room wasn't terrible, it was more the head and arm space felt lacking.

Compared to my MINI anyway, which is surprisingly roomy from the drivers seat in comparison.

I had a brand new 320 just last week as a hire car though and you definitely notice the difference, especially being an automatic, you can just lean on the centre arm rest and coast along.

We had a 2007 120i Sport. I'm 6'0 tall and horizontally challenged - the 'Sport' seats were nice and comfy, seat adjustments good, steering wheel adjustments good, driving position good... I can't really fault it and I'm very picky.

Rear seats in our 3 door model were OK for children or smaller adults. Enough boot space for 2 labrador-sized dogs.

I'm never entirely sure what people mean when they say a car has very little room in the drivers seat. For me it means I cannot physically operate the car, due to a lack of headroom or an inability to depress the clutch or turn the steering wheel. Perhaps others prefer a driving position whereby they have their arms fully outstretched and the seat on its highest setting (so as to see more of the front of the car?), in which case then yes, a 1-series is probably the wrong option and perhaps an X5 is required

Other than that, I struggle a bit to understand how someone can find fault with the range of adjustment available in a 1-series driving seat, which is far superior to the likes of a Megane or Focus (6'8, 17.5 stone)

My 2012 Passat has very narrow seats and a huge central tunnel. It pushes into my left leg which twists my hips around and means that I'm not centred on the seat - my right thigh sits on the bolster, rather than within it.

I can operate all the controls just fine, but I'm uncomfortable. That's one example of "very little room in the drivers seat"

Keep struggling.

In my case, I sat in the car and made all of the adjustments I could to move the seat down and away from the steering wheel. I then tried to push the steering wheel as high as it would go.

Result was steering wheel still touching the top of my thighs. I tried to change gear and wouldn't want to do this when actually driving. It felt like I was sat in a car designed for people smaller than me.

I'm probably nearer 6ft 5 than 6ft 4. Fit in my Mazda and even my fiancée's Polo absolutely fine. Even found a Micra K11 to be ok. New 1 series though? Nope.

For everyone who says they are shorter than me and can't understand, aren't you actually missing the point? You aren't the same height as me so it won't be the same.

Anyhow, I thought I'd start this thread with what I found. Sorry so many people struggle with it. hehe

Been a passenger in both a 1 and 3 series, and an X1. Ample room, but my complaint is that they're so damn difficult to get into and out of. I'm forever bashing my head on the underside of the roof and just can't find an easy way of getting my legs & feet in. Tried feet first, bash my head. Sit down first, not enough room to swing in my legs.

One reason for me never to buy a BMW!

1 series small? In the driver passenger seat they feel like a 3 series to me.

Aren't people expecting a lot of space these days?

I'm sure quite a few of the 80's three series (e30) were above 6 foot tall and got on just fine. Compared to the e30 the current 1 series is massive inside.

Why the stupid clothes comment then?

Buy something else then. Why should those of Colin Chapman proportions have to put up with wasted space for lanky/fat people?
Reason I looked at one was because I thought they would be a nice car for me. The M135i and coming M140i(?) seemed especially appealing as I now work a short walk from home. So, you know, having an interest, I thought I would take a look.

The car seems to be a similar size if not bigger than my Mazda3. It's definitely bigger than my OH's Polo. When I got in the car, I was surprised at how small it was. I thought that being a motoring forum, I'd mention this and see if anyone else noticed this.

As with PH though, it seems I've attracted the usual idiots with their brain-dead comments. Oh well. This is PH after all. smile I'll see what people think elsewhere.

Space in the rear seats is definitely poor.

I had three E46s over 10-12 years, a couple of tourings and a saloon. When I came to change I looked at the present 3 series and thought they were too large for my needs. Must confess I have never liked big cars.

I really like the One series now, but I think my daughter's Golf has a lot better rear seat room.
