Good to hear! Went to MX5 Heaven a couple of years back and they had a turbo'd car there. The guy there took me for a spin and it was a fast little car, hanging its ass out when he wanted it to.. The guy could really drive well, impressive stuff.

Alot of people mount Elise seats in them, you need to get some bracket but seems to be very common change. The seats are very light and you gain some room for legs and head. For now you can do what the forum call a 'foamectomy'. remove the seat cover and remove a few inches from the bottom of the seat foam and put it back togethor, again quite commonly done from what i hear.

Foamectomy is so common I have already done it! The colour scheme I have gone for on it is a bit...marmite...to say the least, but it's been fun to do. If I do go FI, I'll be needing bigger wheels - these BBS are OEM, and very light, but I don't think they'd put the power down well at all...

haha yeah first thing my friend did with his bronze mk2! Made quite a difference although he only did the drivers side so you sat a bit higher as a passenger in that car.

Great looking little car, nice and clean! Looks like the 14" wheels, there are 15" versions which are similarly light but are rare as hens teeth and not sure if you could fit a wider tyre with them. The ones i always thought looked great were enkei RPF1's

Yes, there are 15" BBS rims out there (OEM on the RS?), but as you say - rare as rocking horse poo.

Those Enkeis look the business, I must agree. I did consider powder coating some 5 spoke Mazda rims orange to continue the GT3 RS theme, but that may be a bridge too far...

The way i see it is: if you cared what people think would you drive an MX5?

Paint them how you see fit mate, may be too much for some people but if you like it then go for it!

Also, have you looked into LSD's for MX5's. You may have one already but a torsen in the back makes a hell of a difference exiting corners! The thing i like most about the MX5's is the amount of options available to the owner, hell you can get a quaife sequential gearbox, LSD's, tubular subframes, wilwood 4 wheel brake kits etc.. If you join up to the Nutz forum you will see a few race teams are very active on the forum and happy to talk things through with other member as well.

Ha - Dan Trent clearly beat me to it.

Yes, that's an S-Special so I have a Torsen Diff - which does indeed add a lot of fun on a tight backroad under a bit of power.

I browse Nutz from time-to-time and keep an eye on the Facebook group of the same name which is usually pretty helpful.

no I just didn't seem to get it, I bought it with doing some track days in mind, but for some reason I just couldn't get comfortable in it, I loved my mk2 mr2 and thought this would be more fun

That is a hell of a detailed/time consuming advert to flog a car for 995 quid.
My mate sent me the info and pics and I typed it up in my lunch break, hence the possibility of a typo or two!

I bought a very mint mk1 recently. So they are not all rusty! Mine was one of the cleanest underneath due to being dry stored. To keep it that way I had the underside and all cavities protected during the scorching heatwave before it was delivered.

It is being changed somewhat, cosmetically and mechanically, with lighter wheels, better adjustable dampers, some engine tuning, high flow headers, CAT, exhaust, low-pro headlamps, leather seats etc. I wanted a nice solid base for a subtle OEM+ style project car. Scuzzle Motorsport will be doing all the work.

Keep thinking about selling mine, but a step up from an MX5 is always so much more money. If you want two-seat convertible that adheres to roughly the same ideals as the '5, where does one go? Elise? Great car, but a decent '5 is £2k or so, whereas decent Elises are £10k... Nevertheless, I'm thinking about an Elise next year, and be damned, but my head tells me I'm a fool and that I'd be better off getting the '5 absolutely perfect and turbo charging it...

More of a step across from the MX-5 - similar performance but more Elise like dynamics.

Looked at MR2s when I bought the 5 (having been scared off Mk2 MX5s by rust, initially), but as said above, there's not sufficient extra power to justify the move.

So then the question is: keep mine and go forced induction, buy another one that has a charger already, or just upgrade to something quicker altogether. I'm thinking 1 or 3...

I want to like the MX5 but it doesn't quite deliver the sensations I want it to. Maybe it's the natural flex in the chassis that let's the side down.

Great engine and chassis balance, but there is something slightly stodgy and loose feeling about the experience.

I'm going to get hated for this, but I actually preferred my Polo GTI (6N2) even though in many respects it wasn't as good. Better engine, felt more 'tight', fantastic brakes and it was a lot more refined and comfortable for every day use.

If you just want simple top-down motoring, no-one.

An MGB is very similar in principle, but worlds away when you drive both together. The B oozes character that the MX5 lacks imo.
Good MGB's cost a fair wedge these days though don't they?!
