Why go to all this trouble when the DVLA will tell you where any car lives?

Not necessarily true .........none of my cars are at home.

Tracker tells you exactly where it is

Scrotes. It doesn't help that Fords with keyless ignition are just too easy to steal.

Come on, a PAYG SIM can be picked up at any corner shop or car boot sale for cash, with no ID, usually no traceable CCTV etc.

I think you would have to be very naïve to think otherwise.

The lack of a professional touch to the device shown likely suggests wishful thinking, more than an actual threat.
Is it not an act of mental masturbation, similar to telling a hot chick in your porn how she will be yours?
Like sending a letter to a famous actress asking her to marry you?

What does this perversion escalate to?

Buying an RS 2000 for £100,000 with stolen credit cards?

Why? It's all over fb tonight and easily possible. You can buy tk102s as trackers.

Makes me think twice about taking a car to a show...

It makes me think twice about visiting and parking at a show too!

Now the tracker model names have been plastered all over the web it will be even easier for others to copy this as well. Unless you have some sort of home scanner how can you tell if your car has been tagged (short of crawling underneath it every time you come home).

These are the worst, oldest trackers in the history of trackers. The £20 ones on ebay are much smaller and will be better hidden.

It's a shame if it's actually happening (I also read the story on a few old Ford Facebook groups I'm on) as people will stop going to shows. Whether shows are important (to me they're not all that but I can appreciate they mean more to others) is a different story, as I can imagine people will want more security.

I did find it funny reading someone's comment that their car was so full of filler there wouldnt be anything left for a magnetic one to stick to anyway

That's bit of a Daily Express reaction. These trackers are designed as theft *prevention* devices and have repeatedly been discussed and recommended here and elsewhere.

yes Why would anyone steal a show car - it's so unique you'd be caught so quickly.

Unless it's a vigilante cleaning up the streets of stance cars rofl

100% a hoax
look at the size of the thing, and only held on with brown tape, the vibration of the car would shake it off, and if the car went over a puddle the water would weaken the tape
Also as people see number plates at car shows, they could trace the car that way
you can buy a small tracker from the US for $10 which is being used on bikes and cars in the US, uses very strong sticky pad and is very light, once its on, it is not coming off

there have been cases over the years of a few cars being nicked at car shows, as for being caught, they would not be driven on the public roads. more likely driven straight onto a trailer or into a lorry and driven away for someones collection or to sell overseas
nicked to order
Also on most car forums people post pics of their cars, with the number plates on show, there is no way, they would go to a car show with a few trackers and go "that car looks nice" thats nick that.
I have been showing my cars at car shows for over 30 years from my old 3.0 Capri

What people havet done yet, and should probably think about, is install their own tracker in reaction to someone else putting a foreign one on.

Or maybe that was the plan all along and it's a viral thing from a tracker selling company

How does seeing the numberplate, let you know where the car is registered to? The DVLA don't just give that information out freely, you have to have reason to use it
