RS5 vs remapped 435d X-Drive

Up to 100mph I imagine it'd be very close but from then onwards the RS5 would begin to walk away from the BMW.
This sounds realistic. I've gone from a v8 M3 to a standard 435d and to around 80mph they are pretty similar performance wise, however they get there in a very different manner. I'm sure a remapped 435d would be similar to an rs5. A few people that have tested them with a race logic box get circa 10sec to 100mph, and a few even dip under that slightly.
If you do loads of miles (like I now do) the 435 is a brilliant comfortable cruiser. 90mph is 2000rpm in 8th gear! It's a monster off roundabouts etc especially in the wet, and you can hammer it and average 40mpg all day long.
If you're not doing loads of miles I'd find it hard not to be swayed to the rs5 though. You just can't beat the sound and throttle response of a v8 petrol. Have you considered a late e92 m3 comp pack though?
That has the engine and the rwd power train....
In the end all of the above are great tools, it Just depends what "job" you need them for. I.e. What sort of driving will you do over what mileage, is it your only car etc?

I keep changing my mind on a daily basis, the RS5 looks and sounds great but is thirsty and the 435d X-drive is nippy but not very exciting to look at or sit in (in my opinion), considering middle ground cars such as a remapped TT RS or A45 AMG as a happy medium but I know these won't be as comfy for my 50 mile round trip to work every day but I guess thats the price you pay for better handling. Also the fact that none of them will be as fast as my current B8 S4 is hard for me to swallow.
OP - you should take out an RS5 for a test-drive and see how you get on. For me there is nothing better than a V8. Forget about the stats vs the mapped diesel, the RS5 is plenty fast. The response and sound of that V8 is just epic, especially when you up/down shifts. In a world of everything moving to forced induction, the RS5 would be a great choice.

A stage 1 RS5 will beat a stage 1 435d X-Drive in a straight line and round the corners. It will beat it to 60, 100, 150, and on the quarter mile. There is almost no situation where the RS5 will not be faster.
A stage 1 435d X-Drive will beat an unmapped RS5 in a straight line. It will beat it to 60, 100, and on the quarter mile.
Of the two, an RS5 with stage 1 map is best choice.

The RS5 still looks good with the lovely blistered arches, but the A5 is now the 'old' shape and inside it shows. The old sat nav and interior is really dated now.
I drove one and, although admittedly spoiled, was underwhelmed by its performance, particularly given the dreadful fuel economy. Yep, it sounds great, but it merely goes round corners - it is no fun to drive so forget the RS5 as an 'emotional' choice.
For me, i would always go for the newer car if it is a daily because i'd rather have decent toys. I'd also go for the turbocharged option. I remember borrowing a VW Jetta diesel when i had a 997 Carrera S - on the motorway, most of the time, the boring old diesel felt faster on the commute because that's where it's designed to be most effective. And that's what, despite a 200bhp+ deficit?
