You can get a Bluetooth version of those these days.

I don't think they have "points" on US licences.

A red light tucked away above the rear diff.
Never heard of that one I'm only a youngen though, what was the purpose if any
Twas a 70s thing, you lifted the rear fo the car with new spring shackles, rear axle become visible so putting a red light on top of the axle was legal and uh "looked cool".

This was the stuff of dreams back then:

Although clearly quite magnificent, what was the idea behind jacking the back axle up on your 1970's Ford?

hehe

I'm thinking hairy chests, medallions and lugzuriant facial hair completed the look cool

Looks like a dragster.

Supposed to look like a dragster and enables the fitment of mahoosive tyres.

I still have one of those in my car. Can't be bothered to change the stereo in something I'm not keeping

I remember fitting an electric aerial kit to my Capri. It was operated by a toggle switch fitted under the dash rather than with the radio off/on button. I remember feeling really smug and cool at traffic lights making it raise and lower. Cringe a bit now tho.
I had one fitted for about an hour. Had to pull in as someone was taking the corner too wide and caught it on a hedge. frown

I'm sure I have mentioned this already but don't forget those massive 6 ft whip aerials that used to take people eyes out on corners.

What about sun strips running along the top of the windscreen? It's not entirely in the spirit of the thread as I see plenty of cars locally with it done, but does anyone else in the UK do it?

Most cars have tint in that area now don't they ?
I will admit that I did have a large "turbo" sunstrip on my car and was flagged down by someone who I realised was drunk and thought it said Taxi! I will also admit that the car was not turbocharged either. boxedin.

On the subject of stickers on the windscreen or rear screen, I remember "On A Mission" being pretty popular in the mid-late '90's.

I may have fitted one to the rear screen of my first car, an Escort 1.3lx, whilst I was in 6th form college whistle One of my mates also had "Novadose" on the rear screen of his SR hehegetmecoat

Have we had red stripes and shading decals?

Mid 80s when Ford pit a red stripe into the bumper of Fuel Injected Orions, I remember seeing them appear on lesser Escorts and Orions, also on other makes of car.

The shading was a decal that you put under the body Sid rubbing strips if fitted. It gave a shadow effect.

Another one.... Painting the radiator grille the same colour as the rest of the car....
Now hanging my head in shame...did this with my white 1978 Escort mk2 1.1L and to make it even worse I painted the steel wheels in matching white...

In a similar vein...my brother and I were a bit Ford obsessed in 1986, we also painted the panel between the rear lights in Matt black on various escorts, capris and cortinas ...to make them look like an 'S" version... seem to remember those cars were always £400....

Not a car mod, but it reminded me of how much I spent on the wood facia on my Ericsson phone. Good grief that looks ridiculous now.

I think all replacement aerials are a mod of the past, especially the chrome bee stings:

I bought one from Poundland to fit on my first car, ended up losing all radio signal completely but at least I looked cool...
