Usually
diesel fumes and pollution in traffic,
Sunburn on hot days
High speed = high noise and don't want to have to slow down just because the roof is down
It's PC gone mad though rally cross. What next, smoking is bad for you? Don't throw litter out of the window? Lease a vehicle??? I personally think that if open top motoring is in anyway more civilised than flying a Sopwith Canel then it's a Brucie bonus

Normally drive with the top down except when raining.

The screen deflects much of it but, in heavy rain, it rounds the side and runs in as I normally keep the windows down too.
So butch.

Swiss: driving a vert is like making love to a beautiful woman. Best done with the windows open, slightly damp and at high speed

Wow, it never occurred that people would spit at an MX-5. A Porsche or something equally expensive/valuable, maybe. Fair point, I can understand that then.
Exactly my thoughts too! It's only an MX5 but I suppose to the great unwashed it's a convertible sports car. They don't understand it's older, cost a couple of grand etc. they just see a convertible sports car.

Either that or the two people in it having a proper laugh and giggle hit a nerve, I don't know as I thought like you, it's no Porsche. However, what is funny is that my Dads Porsche got referred to as a Ferrari a couple times so maybe people just bump cars up the desirability ladder automatically.

I miss her actually. Her curving lines, ample hips, the way she felt in my hands and the way she could stoke a part of my soul no one else has done before.

Oh and the ex was sort of alright I suppose laugh

Exactly. It's no-one else's business whether we choose to have the hood up or down.

Do you Mr OP get curious and perhaps a little indignant when you see other drivers choosing to have their windows down when yours are up? Or not playing music on the radio. Or having their lights on when you don't? Or wearing a red jumper when you are wearing a blue one?

It's called "freedom of choice".

My roof goes up if I park anywhere for more than a minute or two. Maybe I'm overly paranoid - its not like I leave anything valuable in it.
I expect one day to come back to find rubbish thrown in the cabin or something, but still....

I was reminded of this thread this morning - driving off to an appointment - top down, windows down, quite cloudy and breezy, despite the forecast for clear skies. In my vest and shorts.

Bracing. hehe

Unless it's bucketing down, the top comes down.

A colleague bought a brand new Volvo convertible 5 years ago. I don't think she's had the roof down once in all that time.

My roof is down when I can wear sunglasses without looking like a mug. Yes I curse when I get sunburn, but the process of getting it feels great.

But I am a hypocrite, I recently chose a hard top over a convertible daily because I'd struggle justifying the impracticalities over the random times my passengers or I would think it was OK to have the roof down.

I've only recently bought a mk1 MX5. I have not driven it with the top up yet and I don't intend to. Unless it is snowing or lashing down. Even then, apparently it just wafts over the top when on a run. Cant wait to find out!
