Cost of Extending Porsche Warranty

Hi all,

My 2013 Cayman S still has official Porsche warranty on it, which expires next March. I will be looking to extend it by a further 2 years and wanted to find out is there a set cost for this (excluding the 111 inspection and, of course, the cost of carrying out any work prior to being 'approved')? I was under the impression it is in the region of £1100/1200 for 2 years (a quote I got from Brooklands when I casually enquired) but my local OPC has given me a quote with is around £450 dearer. Do different OPCs set their own prices?

it's a fixed price, cheaper if you buy 2 years over one.

£1465 without the inspection, that's what I paid in February for a Cayman S.

It should be fixed price, it's on the Porsche website somewhere but I can't find it at the minute.

That also includes breakdown cover, it's cheaper if you just want the warranty.

I've just started looking at this as my warranty is up at the end of next month...slightly confused as I thought you didn't need the 111 point check if your car was already covered...but the service at Porsche Hatfield is saying that you do in every case need the check.

When I spoke to a salesman at Hatfield he mentioned about his service department "they always manage to find something wrong with it"

Well in this instance its better to have the MOT done early, and the service, and application for extended warranty, if they find 'something' whilst its still under 3 years old problem is all theirs!!

I always MOT and have inspected the car before any warranty expiry for this reason and always do first MOT at main dealers even if in future i'm not going to in case they 'find something' post warranty expiry.

I've just been quoted £1,681 for 2 years extended warranty, including roadside assistance and the 111 point check (inc VAT).

It's a few years off yet but I've been thinking about the extended warranty for my CGTS. I have Zunsport grilles fitted, and will keep them, so I'm assuming my car will fail the 111 point check on these alone. Given the risk of damage without them, I think I'll forfeit the extended warranty.

Considering the list of items not covered, the risk of a rejected claim if I wriggle around my fitted grilles and the lack of engine issues with 981s, I'm thinking the £1600+ is just not worth it.

Might be worth double checking that...I was quoted £1,681 for the 2 years with roadside but excluding the 111 point check....unless they agreed to do the check for free for you?

The 111 point check gets included if you are the 'continuous' owner and the car is continuously in warranty. If you buy one 2nd hand outside the network and 'bring it into the system' as it were, it gets added on.

I need to add costs for the MOT (£55) and possibly a new tyre, depending how it looks come October?

no, that's not right. I've always had to pay for a 111 point check on renewal of the warranty, car has been in warranty it's whole life. They even charged me for it (111point check) when having a full service at the same time, but reduced the cost a tad.

Hm, the OPC that arranged the warranty extension for me a few weeks ago insisted that head office (or the aftermarket provider) required the check whether or not you were having a service done when I asked if I couldn't get a sevice done instead.

Interesting, my OPC have always 'thrown it in', certainly on my 2 x 7.1 911's?

Oh, yes, the 111-point check is definitely required, but often / occasionally the price of the check is waived if you are also having other service work carried out at the same time.

As with most things there is room for negotiation.
I paid £1325 for a 2 year extension about a month ago.
Inclusive of 111 point check but excluding Porsche Assist which I don't need.

Sorry to drag this back up, my Cayman S is coming up on 3 years old, and it looks like I'm going to be keeping it for a while longer as I haven't found a suitable replacement yet.

I've spoken with my OPC this morning and have been quoted the below breakdown:

My understanding is that the warranty & assistance is fixed price from Porsche, so is non-negotiable. So the only negotiable items is on the 111 point check and in my case, an MOT - is this correct by your experience?

My other question is I'm trying to understand the risk vs reward. I'm not aware of any common problems with the 3.4 F6 or PDK gearbox that scream to me that the warranty is a must have. So it'll be for my own peace mind.

That all looks correct to me, and I've not heard of any major engine or PDK issues with 981 models. There is a slight question mark over the manual gearbox as some GT4s and GTSs have had a third(?) gear failure after track use.

Remember the car will need to be 100% as original to obtain the warranty. I've been told my Zunsport grilles would have to be removed to pass the 111-point check and re-fitting them would mean any warranty claims would have to be non-attributable to them. I think they're essential on my GTS so I'm going to keep the extended warranty cash in my pocket as a slush fund. My car insurance includes breakdown cover so I'll have £1000 a year set aside instead...
