Mine's been sat in the shed for 5 years - everything I want is on the computer so have never needed to get one.

I am in the process of going through them all (between 400-500) checking I haven't missed any on the computer then giving them to charity.

What is everyone else doing?

Converted them all to MP3 long time ago, I think they're in boxes in my parents basement... or been thrown out!

Buy vinyl and non-DRM MP3 downloads exclusively these days.

Got some ammo boxes , perfect size, all in the loft

Used windows media player to rip them to MP3, took a week or so of just swapping them over each time I was near my computer.

Now my entire collection fits on a tiny thumb drive that is unoticable in my car

Used to be stacked on an Ikea CD case. Until a bunch of earthquakes...

Now in a box in a cupboard for the last 5 years.

Already ripped to mp3, did try flac but really couldnt tell enough of a difference to make it worthwhile.

My car only has a CD player so I've dusted a lot of them down and been going through music I haven't listened to in a while.

To answer the original question - I am playing them on the stereo in my house and in my car CD player that holds 6 discs. Why bother transferring to another medium when I can just play the CDs?

Sold them all off to music magpie along with all our DVDs about 4 years ago, we have no physical media in the house and are entirely digital.

I love my CDs and keep adding to them via Amazon pre-owned and popping into charity shops.

Can't beat having to get up and physically select an album, whether disc or record.
I hate going for dinner at friends' houses and not being able to assess their musical tastes by perusing the CD spines.
Obviously you can't tell by their clothes since they all shop at Primark.

I've noticed Amazon seem quite keen to get rid of their CD's. The last few albums I've bought from them the CD has been cheaper, even with postage, than the download. However buying the CD also includes a free download so I get want I actually wanted, a download, and then a couple of days later I get a CD which doesn't come out of it's cellophane.

To answer the OP's question, they are all on shelves in the spare room, a little bit like books, I still like to open them up and read the sleeve notes whilst occasionally spending a few minutes shuffling them about and re-ordering them.

Kept them in the loft. Technically you can only play a ripped copy if you own the original...

I assume you deleted any rips you may have taken from the CDs / DVDs when you sold them on as you no longer own the copyright, same for whoever gave their CDs to the charity shop wink

Personally I ripped all mine FLAC sometime ago and the CDs are in boxes in the loft. This is my backup in case the hard drives with all the rips on ever go tits up.

Still prefer to have the physical media when buying music as I can rip to FLAC as opposed to MP3 which seems to be the main download option and not bit perfect against the original.

Ripped them all to MP3 and put them in the loft. Now that large USB drives are getting cheaper I'm thinking of getting them all out again and re-encoding in a lossless format. If only I had a spare weekend.
