Regarding the Shed, it's not for me. The V8 powered one possibly but those are far from Shed money.
They did indeed praise the chassis on the test above saying it could handle more power and was quite adjustable

A rwd V8 one sounds fun of a different kind though!

I bought this 2001 V6 160 a couple of weeks ago for £750.

Would much prefer the estate though but getting hard to find a decent one now.

paint work is shocking oil was very low, below min mark
engine was warm on arrival
no belt history
i walked away
hpi report here: https://totalcarcheck.co.uk/Certificate#RL51VZC-zg...

oh back box very rusty and rear calipers / discs
and the arms at the front to the back of the front wheels.
bits of trim missing along the inside bottom of doors
no reciepts just stamps in service book
To be fair whilst the "warm on arrival" thing would make me run a mile, but the rest are probably acceptable on a £700 car. Spending the extra 500 quid or so to get one in decent condition would probably be wise, though.
Might be the owner had come home from work or otherwise needed to use the car, I must admit it makes me a little sceptical but when I sold my 944 I sold it cold as it had a hot start problem biggrin

I did tell the chap about that though, why I will never get rich selling cars biggrin

That HPI report shows the car is SORNed, so really no genuine reason to be fully warmed up.

Lovely colour, nice car.

Good shed choice. For the money a nice car. I never particularly wanted one for myself but they ARE distinctive and a bit different and excellent value. I think you have to give credit where it's due to a good buy.

Two 2.5 V6 versions, 157 (160ps) and 187 (190ps) horses. Then there's a 4.6 V8 with 256 (260ps) horses aka Mustang engine.
256bhp from a 4.6V8? How come? Didn't the Alfa GTA Sportwagon V6 produce 250bhp or was that the 159?!
The 3.2 in the GTA was 250 bhp, 159 was also 3.2 and 256 bhp and the 3 litre straight six in the BMW 330 was also around 260 bhp

In terms of bhp per litre it's not great but this stuff is not the be all and end all, how an engine feels, sounds and delivers its power is what puts a smile on your face

If I had any need for an estate car I would be seriously tempted by this - even the colour is good (a bit like my Imola Red BMW)! thumbup

Yes, i'm well pleased with it.

I always had a thing about the v6 2.5 and even in my years of motor trading never took one as a trade in, so when a motor trade friend said he was getting this one back in i jumped at the chance. Its not perfect by any means, but i'm enjoying doing the bits and pieces to it.

Its in at the moment getting polybush anti roll bar bushings fitted as the current ones are shot and the anti roll bar rattles like a bag full of spanners, so that will make a big difference.

Yeah I had a ZT-T (granted saloon not estate) as a company car for a few weeks till my car was delivered and it accelrated and handled like a pensioners shopping trolley ... Bland, beige, oap mobile
Odd, the ZTs I've driven have had fantastic chassis for a barge. Probably on a par with the 3-series overall and leagues ahead of anything VAG were producing at the time.

I guess yours must have been broken.
The highly regarded Dutch magazine Autovisie did a comparison test of eight sporting diesels back in 2003 or so. Top-four was: 4. Saab 9-3, 3. BMW 3-series, 2. Alfa 156 and 1. MG ZT. This was almost entirely on the strength of the MG's handling as it offered the least powerful engine in the heaviest body...

Oh, you wonder where the Audi A4 was? It came dead last.

If it had a German badge on it people would cheerfully pay much much more.
And if it had a Ferrari or Lambo badge they'd pay even more............
BUT, it doesnt, so I wont ... I never got the whole rebadged Rover OAP series of 25/45/75

blander than a bland thing thats bland and painted beige ... not even does the red excite me ... NEXT
I agree, utterly horrible driving "experience", wholly unsatisfying. They were ghastly when new and the passage of a decade and a half seems unlikely to have improved things. No, not at £200... Mr Misery of Stratford on Avon
Really? My brother's immaculate E39 525i Touring (last-of-the-line model) feels very distant and floaty next to the MG which is of an altogether more sporting nature (by barge standards, mind). It does feel like hewn from solid granite, though, probably the best-built Beemer of all time...

Bought and sold quite a few of these, and have never had any mechanical problems, although VIS motors are another potential pitfall with them, and whilst not that expensive to fix are another thing that is is a cost that is now a high percentage of the actual value of a car.
I don't see the comparison with German marques, you just need to check out the poor quality of. Much of the interior trim to understand why the phrase 'premium brand' is attached to thr likes of VMW, but not the MG.
Plus, as said elsewhere, not a particularly fast car despite its 190bhp (I'd like to know if standard cars actually made, or even approached this, on rolling roads...?)
As such, I always think they look like

but go like

Classic. Made me proper chuckle. Thanks.

I was talking to a 'proper' mechanic a few weeks ago. He was wringing his hands at just how badly designed the MGF he'd got on his ramp (again) was.
"Look at this, what were they thinking"?
What they were thinking was, "How in hell can we make a nice new car when we have no development budget? We'll just have to do the best with the pitifully small amount of funding that we do have."
