To answer other questions it was a lease so the future value is not any concern to me and the lease company themselves who have been very helpful did not question this as an issue.
In that case, fair enough, just be sure the lease company wont bother you with the prospective drop in resale value!
Lease company won't give two monkeys what colour it is. There's no difference in 'resale value' of a brown one to a grey one (as far as book values go and also in the fact that the lease company will simply punt the car out to a dealer once the lease finishes)

Book value may not differ but lease compnay can and do adjust RV and dealers certainly do.

When Audi introduced their Lifestyle colours, the additional cost was (from memory) £1000 over normal metallic and we took £1000 off the RV. So it would cost over £2k more for orange or lime green - despite the fancy names they gave the colours.

This entirely explains the dealer's low-ball compensation offer. If there's any future value issue, that's between VWFS(at a guess!) and the dealer, not the OP. Dealer might even have had to already compensate VWFS, so only a brolly and a set of mats left in the kitty for OP's rental.

In your shoes I'd want a bare minimum of 5% off the usual price just so you may be covered on exit. Ideally 10%, although I doubt they would ever offer that. Even then I personally wouldn't go there even for any amount on principle. I am pretty sure most people would happily pay even 25% premium not to drive a brown car.

Edit:

Just realised it was a lease. Not to worry then. Someone else's loss down the line in that case!

TBH most RV's are set by the finance company, I don't know of any dealer that has the power to change an RV on a finance package.

Call any lease company, ask for a quote for a silver Audi A3, then a yellow one (or whatever) there won't be a difference in price (unless there's a cost difference for the paint)

I don't know from when you are basing your information, but in today's market the dealer has no power to adjust any deal down to colours, and the manufacturer/lease company/finance company don't give a hoot.

6 fking pages before we get told it's a lease after numerous times of asking.

Obviously knew it would've changed the majority of responses, hence why everyone was asking, and you were avoiding the question.

Lots of ste posted on this forum, but in most cases, it's decent ste. This thread was just a complete fking waste of time. Glad you didn't get the umbrella in the end!

Not a deal adjustment as such but this below was posted last year on the Audi S8 lease thread:

Mine's moonlight blue with walnut leather. The dealer thought that was a completely batst colour combo and tried to talk me out of it, then why I told them to shoosh they tried to whack me with an additional £5k (yep) holding deposit!! They got short shrift and backed down when I threatened to pull out of the whole thing although I was surprised they didn't just let me walk.

Perfectly reasonable to ask for a larger deposit for special order colours that you wouldn't want in stock, we do it all the time when someone orders a cream car with an orange roof, orange wheels and an orange interior.

Doesn't make any difference to the value of the car 3 years down the line though (less desirable but the 'value' is the same)

Makes sense. I guess it helps focus the buyer's mind and prepare for disappointment at trade-in time smile

Having worked for motor finance and major lease companies from 1988 to 2007 and now with a car maker, I agree that dealers won't change the RV on a deal unless they are one of the few underwriting their own deals, but they will certainly adjust the PX value or buy-in price they will offer when the time rolls around for the customer or the lease company to want to sell the car.

Big lease co's didn't coin the phrase "doom blue" but they do adjust RV according to colour. For instance, Mercedes EPOS dealer quote system asks for the colour and it affects the RV/rental.

Independent lease cos and brokers can flex the RV any way they like - they are the ones taking the risk on it - but most won't go above 100% of CAP gold book.

Ah, so we can all calm down because it's a lease and there isn't really any impact on the OP. Glad you are happy with what you got.

This did happen to my BIL about ten years ago - he ordered a Fiat Doblo (I know!) in black and it turned up in silver. The dealer did't try to schmooze him, simply asked if he wanted it, or if he wanted to wait for the replacement vehicle. I think he was quite pleased, he rolled down to the dealer and accepted the car in exchange for a lot of free servicing and free MoTs for the period he owned the car. (He might even have got some additional warranty thrown in, can't remember.)

If that's right about the Merc finance system adjusting for colour I'm shocked. Are you sure that is still the case?

It really is an awesome colour. I order one in the same colour and I love it. So different from all the other Audis. Quite a few people have commented what an interesting colour it is.

Luckily it's a company car and therefore couldn't car less about residuals. I wouldn't pay out of my own pocket for it though as it will probably be hard to shift.

I agree. I ordered my Allroad in blue but to be honest it just looks grey; I wish I'd chosen something a bit more interesting now!

This?

Ridiculous suspension aside, if Audi sold cars in that colour I'd consider buying one! Last Audi dealer I went in I thought my eyes had lost all sensitivity to colour.
