A bit of flash for not much cash - what car

It doesn't matter so much with leasing, I was approved a year or so back with a st credit history, I think as its a lease and they can just take the car back they aren't so bothered. Not sure if this would be the same with PCP too, but leasing certainly is easier than getting a bank loan, as I found out.
InterestingA Leon coupe will have them dripping!

No. Just no. This is the Alfa you're looking for...

Ageless design, classic, elegant, just the right side of flash with the greatest production engine ever made. Added advantage is that V6 Alfa's are now going up in price. You certainly won't lose money and might make some! Will it impress women? Who knows, nor cares. You get a bloody lovely car out of it, anything else is a bonus...
I was going to suggest the same thing. Much cheaper to buy than it looks, but make sure it's not a diesel. Has back seats too http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/a...

I second this

Anything older ie e46s are getting seriously leggy and now looking pretty dated, I've had a few as well so fell I can say that! e91s however went through some pretty serious changes and updates and you really notice the difference.
I would suggest an Audi A5 but can't see you getting one close to £5k that isn't a total shed or been a prev insurance claim!
Forget about Alfa unless you have a bit of mechanical know how or inclination to learn!
If you were really mad you could get a Cayenne! I hear the 4.5 is particularly reliable!!
This one got to 205k miles so they can't all be bad!

Got in to a bit of a childish race with an Audi TT on my way to work yesterday.
I got into a race with a turbo diesel TT once they are really something else. I thought I done ok even though he pulled away twice. They are quite quick, well this one was, must have been remapped lol. Next time I`ll have him because I have bought a newer lighter mountain bike.
Those 3 series would probably do the job. Doing as many miles as the OP I'd perhaps go diesel, they're good Diesel engines and fairly brisk too.
Could probably get a 320d msport coupe in budget like this one but perhaps look for lower miles https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172314247913
The way I see it, there are only a few choices. An Audi for around 5-6k in S Line trim, a BMW for the same in M Sport trim, no Mercs (too old man, which is why I have one), an Alfa, or use some of that spare cash to lease something.

A leggy, resale silver repmobile? An utterly shagged low-end narcotics dealer's wheels?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262583914955?clk_rvr_id=...

Are you totally clueless?
As for the Alfa comment - you probably don't have any experience of them. Breras and 159s are no less reliable or fragile than any other mainstream European car - and have fewer known issues than most. Even GTs are well sorted, so long as you maintain them properly.

This is classic priority projection; you're projecting your own priorities onto that of others, imo.
In my experience, girls tend not to care about cars anywhere near as much we petrolheads think they do.
Sure, buy a flashy car (or what you perceive as such) if it gives you more confidence as opposed to driving a banger, but apart from that, your car isn't going to make the difference you think it will.
Think about it; you meet a girl in a pub / cafe / train / wherever, if you get as far as swapping numbers and arranging a date / or for her to come yours (or vice versa) - she's already decided she likes you enough to do so, she doesn't know what you drive at this stage, so the car doesn't matter.
Also, if she cares enough to be impressed by your car, a few mins of google, if she's so inclined, will reveal that it's a cheap car, and thus, not so flash after all. Or she'll ask you what you paid, which yields the same result - assuming you answer honestly!
So, in summary, a bit pointless, imo. Just buy a car that YOU want, for reasons other than to impress others.
+1 this.. The car doesnt really matter if your on date its game on already so to speak, Blokes worrying too much about cars on date is like a worrying about a hole in your boxers if she's got to that point your going to nail it regardless.. But it's PH and we all overthink it far too much.In my experience, girls tend not to care about cars anywhere near as much we petrolheads think they do.

I think you missed the sarcasm on the Cayenne, I stand by the e91. One Alfa (a brera) in my life was enough, beautiful car particularly the interior but they are still rubbish rubbish cars if we had time I could give you an account of how much went wrong with it! Our work had a new lease 159 again great looking car but what a total POS, build quality control just doesn't exist. Are you totally clueless?
