A bit of flash for not much cash - what car
Discussion
Thanks for the comments everyone.
Particularly those of you who suggested I may be able to lease even with a st credit rating.
There's an offer on with Park Lane BMW through my work for various BMW's and Minis.
I've placed an order for a 335d xDrive M Sport, and as I wasn't fussed on colour or spec, it should be with me within the next 4-6 weeks. Looking forward to having something brand new and quicker than any car I've owned so far.
Might not be much by way of a fanny magnet but I don't think it'll put them off, fast and frugal, good for commuting. Only a 12 month deal so I shouldn't have time to get bored before buying something I really want.
Hope the shed hangs on in there until then! If anyone's in the market for a clapped out rusty old mazda 3 in around 4-6 weeks time let me know

Do we have any actual girls here on PH, that might like to comment?
I know there were some a few yrs back, but maybe they deserted us after the Mumsnet saga?
I think you will find the girls on here have their own pretty impressive motors or they are I know there were some a few yrs back, but maybe they deserted us after the Mumsnet saga?

Girls like what girls like. For all the flash cars I've owned the most positive feedback I've had on cars I've had female passengers in were a MINI and a FIAT 500. Buy base spec, as new as you can afford and make sure inside and out are immaculate.
Then again forget impressing girls or PHers and buy what impresses you, you'll be far happier.

When I first met Mrs Jim AK I took her on a date, 3rd iirc, in my Dads then fairly new Aston DB7.
To say she was unimpressed is a major understatement!
To this day she insists it was uncomfortable, cramped & noisy & none of my saying she would be the 'Coolest teacher' with her class of 8 year olds convinced her otherwise!!
Actually the thing was a complete PITA that evening because I couldn't get it into the car park where we went due to the fact it was an unmade very pot holed area & I had zero ground clearance.
Probably the only time I really needed the Allroad I had at the time!
well what would be interesting is to keep a graph over the next 12 months of car and lady successes.
Maybe lease payments per month v returns ?
But honestly no women could care less about the car you drive: even if its a shed. She just doesn't want to get into a cess pit of a dirty car, if she's spent the last 4 hours getting ready for a date.
chances are you'll probably be meeting someone at a pub/restaurant anyway via some internet dating app, so no one will ever see yr car.
anyway, it could be an interesting tread. Or not...............

A TT. It's the only car i've ever had where my gf said "i hope you're not going out picking up girls in it". Beats my mates asking if i'm out picking up men in it
99% of women want something quiet, clean and with soft plastics. They also want to be able to keep their teeth in their head when going over potholes, so no sports suspension, and they don't want to be embarrassed by you, so no road raging, speeding or trying to "show off".
Look at what they buy themselves - that's what they like.

What does it matter what he's paying? I've been called a fantasist on here before and ended up sending someone the link to my LinkedIn profile to shut them up, some young people actually are capable of doing alright for themselves.
Does anything on a forum 'matter'? People used to survive fine without them.Anyway, I Didn't say it mattered. It's a simple question. I am fully aware that some young people have nice cars and good incomes but the fact that he had to ask what cars would impress a woman for not much money suggests he's not one of them!
I wouldn't say it does, my two cars are worth less than £2,500 combined, just because you can afford a ton of debt doesn't mean you should or want to. Some people also don't like using their savings for a car that will depreciate like a stone so choose to drive something cheaper. The question was pretty straightforward as far as I see it. I hope he's out smashing some slags as intended, perhaps that's why he's not posting back!

I doubt it because if you could read you would see that he doesn't get the car for 6 weeks. Once he has the car, the slags will be aplenty. Or not.Haven't read all the replies, but being the same age as you and in the same kinda situation I'd recommend a late E46 Sport 330ci, in grey with black leather. Maybe a lower spec E92 might be in budget by now?
I had a E46 Sport Saloon a few years ago, and it was definitely good to tell the ladies you've got a BMW back when I cared about that ste.

Sorry if either of these have already been mentioned already but this forum is too long to read it all.
Have a gander at the mk2 MR2. I'd recommend the UK Rev 3 n/a (gti t-bar). (Check for front end crash damage and rusty sills.)
3 series is a great call but an older petrol model (with the possible exception of the smallest engines) is going to guzzle the gas. Also the interiors of basic beemers won't impress. Consider an E46 330d Sport - it's a great combination of understated good looks (imo), economy comfort and grunt. (Check wheel arches for rust.)
I love the look of some of the Alfas but it seems reliability is dire.
PS You may find it cheaper to run 2 cars than 1.

All the local drug dealers up my way are cutting about in these things, Blacked out on a private plate they are extremely difficult to age. Pals (drug dealer) 4.4 Sport is coming up on 180k.
If you want something actually good: You cant really beat lexus for an old reliable executive saloon/coupe, they can look extremely flash if you clean them up.
IS300 - 2jz engine so quick even in its detuned state and very tunable, rare though
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
GS430 - It has a V8. Said V8 will never die no matter how hard you try (Google: Matt Farahs million mile lexus, thats the older version) they also sound bonkers with a bit of exhaust work.
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
LS430 - If barge is your flavour
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
SC430 - Convertible, with a V8? Thats flash as fk. (although I must admit these tend to shift for around 5k, you can find cheap ones)
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
EDIT: all of the above will drive like boats, with the exception of the IS300. Ignore me im high.
