Mine cost £3100 with £1500 of repairs needed. But can get them for £4-5k in working condition. Never failed to get ladies as 20/21 year old in one of these.
Private plate plus some choice mods (Lights & wheels nicked off a newer Range) mixed with some tats and a cock and bull story about being a League One footballer or pharmaceutical rep and you'll have all the fake tanned punani you can handle.

Plenty of RX8s for sale in that budget
Edit: BBR are selling theirs. Looks in decent condition and they'll do / show compression test results: http://www.bbrgti.com/2004-mazda-rx-8/

Although I suggested earlier that a Bentley would do nicely, I feel that a Rolls Royce in this price bracket would give the impression that you are taking some time off from your job of purveyor of wedding car services.
Good call on the Range Rover I would go one further though and get a Defender pick-up with cab and half a bale of straw in the back. It would appear that you own an estate approximately half the size of Hampshire. But don't take it too far, a shotgun between the seats may give the wrong message to young ladies with a limited knowledge of field sports.

Anybody who says girls of 20-30 don't care about cars has no idea what they're talking about. Sure, if you go on a date and start talking to them about how the A8 4.2 TDI is actually a better choice than the S8 5.2 FSI due to the more accessible power band that might not go so well for you, but turning up in something a bit different has always worked well for me - it's a conversation starter if nothing else.
I'm lucky in that I'm 21 and have access to a Gallardo and F430 - every girl I've ever met who's asked what I do has then immediately asked if they can go for a ride, and they always love it, and couldn't care less that they're not actually my cars. Sure, maybe they're not always the type of girls you'd want to spend the rest of your life with, but then the OP has stated that's not what he's after.

Range Rover is quite a good shout actually, private plate & facelifted front end.
The lease option also sounds a good one here, most people probably know you can pick up a CLK or old BMW for peanuts now, you can lease something quite good fun for not much money now. Brand new would work better!

That's basically exactly what I'm saying though. They don't care about the specifics of the car, but they will notice one that's nice / a bit different. As I said, those girls generally aren't the types of girls I'd want to marry, but the OP isn't interested in that. Something like a Z4 is certainly not going to do him any harm!Lol. Some of you guys have forgotten what its like to be 24 with suggestions of big 7 series and jag xj's!! How embarrasing that would be for a young girl to be seen out in. Imagine picking her up from her parents etc.
The only big car youd get away with is a range rover as girls tend to know what they are and like them.
Failing that it would be a sports car like a z4 or 2006 onwards tt if you could stretch to one.
Also, that being said, the newest baby merc/audi/bmw you could find eg a class, a3, 1 series would also do.

^^ and this.If you want something larger which will still appeal to the terminally marketing influenced, it's got to be an SUV. And not an angry dad non-premium SUV. You can't get an Audi Q-series in budget, which I suspect would be ideal. You can get a Toerag, but that might tip over from suggesting you carry surfboards and mountain bikes into Labradors, B&Q and Isofix. BMW X-series cars are in budget. The X5 is a bit ghetto-fabulous, which may or may not be a problem. X3 with leather and a non-dating plate?

An opportunity for me to think about a new car purchase some time in the very near future. Newly single and my current shed doesn't quite cut it for taking out young ladies for nice dates. Shallow as it sounds, but it is in a pretty bad state. Cue the comments about any girl who cares what you drive isn't worth it, but I'm not interested in settling down with anyone for a while now, so a bit of flash is exactly what's needed here.
This is classic priority projection; you're projecting your own priorities onto that of others, imo. In my experience, girls tend not to care about cars anywhere near as much we petrolheads think they do.
Sure, buy a flashy car (or what you perceive as such) if it gives you more confidence as opposed to driving a banger, but apart from that, your car isn't going to make the difference you think it will.
Think about it; you meet a girl in a pub / cafe / train / wherever, if you get as far as swapping numbers and arranging a date / or for her to come yours (or vice versa) - she's already decided she likes you enough to do so, she doesn't know what you drive at this stage, so the car doesn't matter.
Also, if she cares enough to be impressed by your car, a few mins of google, if she's so inclined, will reveal that it's a cheap car, and thus, not so flash after all. Or she'll ask you what you paid, which yields the same result - assuming you answer honestly!
So, in summary, a bit pointless, imo. Just buy a car that YOU want, for reasons other than to impress others.

Most things with a German badge on, many people will assume are far more expensive than they actually are. My E Class is 13 years old and cost me around £4k, a number of people I've chatted to about the car have been really surprised it only cost that much and it's not really the most flashy looking car but people see the badge before the number plate.
I quite like the SLKs as I like the folding metal roof on them. Mate of mine has an 2001 model in black and actually it looks quite nice apart from all the naff wood inside.
I prefer the Z4 although no idea if that comes in under £5k though, the Audi TTs look more flash than the price they sell for (MKI that is) but personally I'd go for a big, powerful saloon of some kind.
For me personally as a Merc fan, an E500 is a cool car if fuel isn't a worry, also can pick up a decent CLS for that money and I think that's still a great looking car. Otherwise i'd be looking at 6 or 7 series BMSs.
