Actually, ladies shouldnt notice the car, clean, quiet, comfy, doesnt look embarassing, us fussing about the brand, model, wheels etc etc is a bit like ladies faffing about over which dress to wear, which shoes, which bag, all too much effort for someone who doesnt really notice as too busy staring at the bits that arent covered.

My 350Z convertible seemed to be liked by women, my wife loved it, she thought my red 944 Cab was a ilarious mid live cliche but liked it anyway, my CLS is basically a grandad wagon for a local councillor/alderman type.

That said, I think for a young chap, you can do a lot worse than a TT, badge, a bit slinky, comfy-ish, nice interior, nice but not too flash, always used to seem ironic on Scoobynet where they said that TT's were for gay men/hairdressers when it was them in their Imprezas hanging round forests at night with other blokes, the TT owners were out getting all the action, similar deal for small dogs versus big scary ones.

AN Impreza with stickers on is the ultimate turn off, apparently either an IT chap who lives at home with his parents at 30 or a council estate "geezer"

Seriously, some of the cars being suggested are absolutely tragic beyond belief. Any decent bird does not care what care you have to an extent. Get a Golf/A3/1 series with decent alloys (not aftermarket ones) and a half decent interior and that'll do. Failing that just get an Astra or Corsa VXR. Something half decent looking from the outside with little or no mods.

Turning up in a knackered old S Class or anything convertible is about as cringey as it gets and she'll be very embarrassed. Stick to a hatchback or a BMW/Audi coupe, but for 2-5k I'd avoid BMW Audi as they will be very old and dated. An E46/Boxster/Mk1 TT is about as bad as it would get for me. I would genuinely rather get a taxi than turn up in something like that to 'impress'.

Turning up in an F80 M3 or a 991 911 might have a positive effect, but I can't see one of those being in budget hehe

Let's face it - he's 24. The women he'll be aiming for won't appreciate a pub-landlord S-class, 7 series, Jag or a Jimmy Saville ageing Roller.

They're much more likely to be impressed by a Corsa VXR or Fiesta ST.

I'm in my 40s now, but even I know that 20-something girls aren't turned on by the same visions of 'flash' as I might be. Although, the really surprising thing is how many do adore the Trabi. Although most think it's the 'Harry Potter car'.

So, there you have it - younger girlies love the Ford Anglia.
At 27 I can tell you that my jag was easily the car which got the most approval from ladies. Even the ones who couldn't care less about any other vehicle owned by anyone took a shine to it.

BMWs and Mercs don't tend to work in that way.
A friend of mine always swore by the phrase:

"If you wanna get a sh*g, buy a Jag!" and he always had plenty.

Simples...biggrin

The Range Rover idea is probably the best one especially with pimp tints, decent wheels and facelifted lights etc

The problem with that is it will rinse your bank account more than the ex missus doing 15k miles a year

X5, too council. X3 could work, we sold ours for 3,500 recently, black with nice wheels, could be a potential angry dad wagon though.

SLK's seem a tad too hairdresser. Other old mercs = old man. Old BMW's = council.

Honestly, a 3 series (e90, definitely not e46, council again) or an A3 in S Line trim would do the job. Private plate, still look reasonably newish. Same with a 1 series with decent wheels. All would be pretty okay to drive every day for your miles too. Are the mk2 TT's in budget?

Failing that, at this budget, you'd probably be better off leasing. Brand new anything is better than most of the options in this thread. Golf would be fine, A class even better.

If you can afford to run a boxster S then it's a great car to drive and the badge alone is enough to negate how old they are

I just read this and hadn't realised the car needed to have a fanny magnet built in hahahahaha.

To be honest, most women aren't into the 'flash' cars that men appreciate. I recall back in about 2003 a chap I worked with owning an Impreza, blue, gold wheels, big wing etc. All the guys in the office thought it was cool, all the women found it cringeworthy.

If you turn up in a car, which is smart and clean and not trying too hard most women will appreciate it. If you turn up in a car that's older, rough round the edges and on a set of 22 inch wheels, you'll look like a tw*t.

He doesn't want a 'decent bird' he just want's to give a perception he has more money than he has so wants 'flash for little cash'...

An e46 should be fine but I doubt she is going to be dripping sitting in an old 3 series (or anything in that price bracket).

OP - you need to rethink your game boyo

Alfa suggestion was brilliant, didn't even give them a thought. Always wanted a red 156 with the big rear spoiler.
No. Just no. This is the Alfa you're looking for...

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/a...

Ageless design, classic, elegant, just the right side of flash with the greatest production engine ever made. Added advantage is that V6 Alfa's are now going up in price. You certainly won't lose money and might make some! Will it impress women? Who knows, nor cares. You get a bloody lovely car out of it, anything else is a bonus...

Isn't that the answer anyway?

I never understand the car to impress women thing. I cannot remember the last time a date involved either party driving (certainly not the first few dates when you are making an impression). Its a cab and enables you to have some drinks and lose the inhibitions.

Spend £3k on exec Ubers and a some nice wines. Your strike rate will be far higher than turning up in a dog of a 20 year old Boxster.

rofl Classy birds I assume. I have owned one and never had one positive reaction. Looks like a chav wagon/blinged up civic and thats what it is. (not saying I didn't love driving it like an utter chav!)

I drive a Saab 9000 and it hasn't scared anyone away yet laugh as long as it's clean and not knackered/barried you'd probably be okay with anything that isn't considered a girls car or chavvy.

There does seem to be a divide in terms of women cringing at anything too "stand out" and the instagram sort that want the attention. I would say its about 90/10 however in favour of women being mortified at the thought of having to get into a bright, loud sports car. Conversely, not many women would turn down the chance to arrive in an Aston, or any discreet and more handsome brutish GT. However, a green lambo is often seen as look at me cringish. Which is a shame, as I want a green lambo. I think if you asked women their perception of a typical Ferrari owner as against a typical Aston owner they would differ considerably.

forget the car get a black lab pup.
When I went to the lake district with my now ex 7 years ago my pup was about 5m old. In the pub it was a great way to get attention of the ladies especially when the missus went to the bog.
BUT

the pup grew into a dog

the missus left me

I am now single with the dog for company

So you agree then. There'll be nothing 'clean or smart' about a 2001 S Class Merc or a Boxster of similar age. Women don't appreciate cars, but a car can say a lot about you. I imagine the sort of people suggesting an old S class are the sort of people who think wearing a Ralph Lauren shirt and a pair of jeans with a huge logo on the back pocket is a great outfit too. I.e very tragically trying to appear like they have money which is about as bad as it gets in personality traits.

rofl I have managed to get the ex to take a lot of the shabby chic bks furniture we've acquired and started removing the Laura Ashley wallpaper already. Operation bachelor pad is well underway, not a scatter cushion in sight!
Proper job mate!

I still have one excess cushion on the couch after the ex left 6 months ago, but it is very much functional, i always have it in the corner of the couch to lay on!

Will be taking down the scaffolding-wood decoration this week, and probably painting the brown (nono) wall some other colour as well.

I got my first Range Rover a few months before I turned 20. I did 25k miles in 1 year while working a minimum wage job.

If you work on it yourself they aren't that bad.
