I'll second that. I am happy for everybody to have an opinion, but nobody likes a know all throwing insults around.
I have a 458, F10 M5 and X5M50d (my first ever 4x4). My experience is that in the real world of traffic jams, wet roads, commuting, etc, no other car i've ever owned competes with the X5. Total comfort, oodles of Torque and a totall chilled environment. I am sure many other 4x4' would be similar. So much so i've now got rid of the M5 as it was always 2nd or 3rd choice car. Just my honest experience and certainly not drivem by me needing to promote 'an image'.

Within a few months I'll be doing the same, albeit 'slumming it' with a mere 4.0d version to replace my 135i for all the reasons you've mentioned plus it makes a fine tow car too, for when/if I have need to transport the hot rod anywhere on a car trailer for whatever reason.

The RR, Q7 or XC90 are still fairly compact against the full sized SUV's such as the Tahoe, Suburban and Expedition
It might just be a factor of the roads I've driven them on, but the Range Rover feels a fair bit wider than the big American SUVs. Jaguar build cars for the WORLD!, not just the UK. In America the prestige saloon (Jaguar have XJ, XF presence) is shrinking and replaced by the SUV/4x4, RR sales in the US prove that. Jaguar needed a presence in this growing market, all the way back to the early days of Jaguar the US has been an important market, they have to be seen to be on trend.
Jaguar cannot rely on the old format middle, large saloons and a sport coupe/convertible to survive. They have to diversify into niche markets, the German manufacturers success in recent years are to develop a multitude of these markets, remember the days of BMW 3,5,6 & 7, A4, A6 & A8 and C,E,S & SL class, now add about 20 other ranges to each of them.

I don't find my RR Sport particularly wide at all.
On the F Pace, I've never been keen on Jags but in fairness to it, it looks good and will no doubt earn them plenty of money, good luck to them.
Is yours the old model? On the F Pace, I've never been keen on Jags but in fairness to it, it looks good and will no doubt earn them plenty of money, good luck to them.
The new one is seriously wide for normal UK roads and a total pain in villages and cities.

I'd feel nothing but mockery for anyone who bought that. Fifty grand? Why?
Presumably if you're buying this you have a family.
If you're interested in cars, buy a V10 M5 for half that and have plenty left for any problems it has.
If you're not interested in cars, buy a secondhand Volvo. Or if you are, buy the secondhand Volvo and then buy a sports car to go with it.
Ah, but this is about driving a big car and feeling big.
Good grief, the psychology behind this is laughable.
You want to talk about the psychology of someone who feels the need to anonymously deride people they don't know about the car they buy on a car website? What do you drive? Presumably if you're buying this you have a family.

Yes it's the old one, I have had a go in a new shape Vogue though and didn't find it significantly different in terms of size and manoeuvring it compared to the L322, but I've not lived with one for any length of time to be fair. The new one is seriously wide for normal UK roads and a total pain in villages and cities.

And what is that aspiration? To impress other people.
Says a lot.
Often strangers.
Says more.
Impress them with your car.
Says even more.
That's not someone who is a fan of cars - that's someone with the ego control of a 7 year old.

I have no commute, the shop for milk is a 3 minute walk, I don't do DIY, no kids, have never 'done a run to the tip' in all my life (I don't know what you people are doing there so often) and actually have no practical need for a car whatsoever (hence currently have no car).

Are you going to be driving a plane or a car? Look at that centre console and all those buttons - no thanks!
Every button separated by a chrome strip - absolutely horrible. Spent a day driving a Panamera and hated the buttons. Porsche can do no wrong; their customer satisfaction survey results indicate people fking LOVE Porsches. Also, far safer than having to look down at a screen to select simple functions such as heating, volume etc...
Another crossover lump that's pointless other than for posing. If I just wanted a road car with a big boot, the XF Sportbrake is ideal...and much nicer!
As a 4x4...just no. Discovery every time. Maybe that's why I was the one pulling people out of the mud at Le Mans whilst the Cayennes and X5s were parked on firm ground!

Looks great. Given the difficulties manufacturers seem to have 'translating' their designs into SUV its a fantastic first effort. I don't think they'll be able to build enough for the US market.
By the bucketload I reckon... Certainly driving the XJ-L over here, lots of people ask about it in parking lots
The British Jaguar brand carries a cachet and a premium it would seem - lease prices are certainly quite high for them.

Ha there you go! Not my taste, but people love it. I personally found the chrome caught the light and distracted me from identifying the button labels. Hey ho.Also, far safer than having to look down at a screen to select simple functions such as heating, volume etc...

I wish people like you would put what car you have in your profile so we can at least see where you are coming from?
I hated my M5, the SMG in the F10 simply didn't suit the car imho.
And I am afraid, most SUVs are more comfortable than their estate counterpart, and have a far more laid back feel to them when driving, hence the appeal for many.
If you are going to answer at least give some examples you have owned to give yourself a little bit of credit in the next load of st you spurt out of your mouth.
