I need a new pair of 700c wheels and was after recomendations for a set suitable for a fat bloke.
Rim brakes, alloy, strong and if they look nice thats a bonus biggrin
Not worried about weight but not too expensive and if poss easy to get spares ie spokes etc

Thanks

Rough budget?

Bigger guys tend to do best with higher spoke counts which a lot of off the shelf wheels don't have, there are wheels which are more robust than others though but it's all about the budget.

I have a set of Fulcrum Racing 5s. I have ridden over 1200 miles on them weighing anywhere between 16 and 19 stone. Still perfect and true as they day the left the factory.

Thanks. The fulcrum ones were on my list

Budget iro £200 seems to have quite a bit of choice and not too expensive to cry if i damage one.

5s are ok and a good benchmark, only issue I had with mine was after a very wet 100 mile ride the bearings seized up , this was after a year of using them.

Any opinions on the campagnolo wheels?

Really like the looks of them but was not sure how strong they would be with the g3 spoke set up.

Got a set of Zonda's and love them, fast, light, strong, spin up quickly, bombproof, what's not to like!

I use Khamsins on my commuting bike and they haven't had any issue with 90kg of punishment on Lewisham's finest goat tracks roads.

I would be looking at a pair of handbuilt wheels from a reputable wheelbuilder.

I use a 36 spoke rear handbuilt on my commuter which takes a colossal amount of punishment. It always stays true, unlike any factory built rear wheel I had ever used previously. Well worth it.

Hand built sounds like a good suggestion. Quite a lot of choice of builders and a couple of hundred is enough.

Agree on the Zondas, plus they make an awesome noise!

My Zondas lasted a year before the rims wore, the bearings rumbled and the free hub collapsed.

Apart from that they looked great!

A bit more than your budget but tubeless ready and plenty of spoke options for all weights.

A few on here have Malcolm wheels, no complaints by me.

The beauty is the rims and wheel can be rebuilt, Campag and Fulcrum aren't exactly economical to rebuild.
