Hang on Hang on, Brand New in the US the price you mention is $118,795 that's only
Yet second hand its £164,950 and second hand.
£75,000 appreciation isn't a bad markup.
It's not quite that simple. Yet second hand its £164,950 and second hand.

£90,075
+ 20% VAT = £108090
+ 10% duty = £118899 (I think it's 10%?)
+ shipping
+ anything which had to be changed to make it road-legal in the UK (I don't think the Viper is EU type approved?).
It looks like there's still a healthy profit there, but not quite £75k.
Utterly fantastic things. It is a track car though imo - the ride really is savage on the road even compared to an older gt3 (basing this on the previous acr). That wing generates so much downforce that the rear springs run 2000 pounds of compression per inch! Hit a small pothole and the thing literally jumps off the ground. Hardcore.

Yay, here's the first one !
Though it's not, as you say, a yank tank, it is on the other hand I feel, rather overpriced. Brilliant car anyway.
If overpriced, what are the better options at this price or lower? For what it is, I certainly can't make a good case for it being overpriced in the USA, at least.Though it's not, as you say, a yank tank, it is on the other hand I feel, rather overpriced. Brilliant car anyway.

You clearly haven't spent enough time around the current crop of stupidly powerful turbocharged four-pot European hot hatches.
High output. We're talking well north of 400HP here (think 450 - 750HP range), not hot hatches. Hot hatches aren't remotely near the same level of power as high-end sports cars. And that's the point -- anything you can buy with 450 or more HP sounds substantially to dramatically better.mikEsprit said:

At £165k pounds in the UK, I think it's overpriced. There's a lot of options available in this price range. I still think it's a fabulous car, and I'd jump at it given the cash available. But it's still overpriced. IMO.macky17 said:

Christ, that doesn't sound fun on the road, LOL!This is a moot point no doubt, but I wonder how hard the ACR would be on brakes and tyres compared to a GT3? Also, one of these blew its engine in pretty spectacular fashion in this year's Targa Tasmania. can't post a photo for some reason but check out the oil down the side of the car!

You pay 20% VAT on the shipping and the duty as well, not just on the original purchase price, and we don't know what the actual purchase price was with any options added. There will be nothing close to £75k margin in this.
Could someone import one for just circuit use and not register it / avoid vat + duty? It's hardly a road cat anyway.Motorsport3 said:

Whether you pay VAT on the duty or duty on the VAT is irrelevant; they're both percentages and multiplication is commutative. Whether you pay UK VAT on the shipping will surely depend on whether you get a UK company to ship it or a US one?
Awesome car, but there is one thing that has not been talked about here and it's worth taking note. The Great thing with Porsche is the Dealer back up, sadly there have been some Engine issues with the latest Gen Vipers, there have been spun bearing issues, derbs in the oil and the factory have been doing a lot of recalls and sending customers engine oil analysis kits to detect abnormal wear.
But this is NOT on all cars. The problem comes that if you did have a problem with the car there is no UK dealer back up and the car / engine would have to be shipped back to the USA to get sorted if Dodge would honor the Warranty. Warranty work would not be done here
It's a big risk at the moment IMO
The latest Viper production is due to come to an end after 2017
Even as a Club member we have no current idea what the spares backup will be when the production ends. I have often asked why you hardly ever see any private entry Viper's racing in the GT series, its simply because there is no factory backup program (unlike Porsche) and the Race car parts are too expensive.
In spite of all that, I would love one, let's not forget this Road going Production car has smashed 13 Track records! Very impressive.
