As 80% of cyclists are car drivers perhaps the tests should be mandatory across all?

Licencing is never going to happen. Get over it.
Licencing will happen, and your attitude is the main reason its necessary, and that's from someone who considers themselves anti-legislation.

Every activity from fox hunting to smoking has its apologists. It seems to be a common theme with all of them that the apologists get weirder and weirder until they appear 'crazies' to the majority of the voting public. They spoil each activity for the majority of people doing it completely sensibly without bothering anyone else.

You are already there. Perhaps we'll resurrect this thread in ten years to see if there is legislation or not.

'Lycra warriors will cause legislation to appear for the majority of normal cyclists who cycle reasonably on the road' - Quote for posterity.

You're comparing an activity that is massively beneficial to all with fox hunting and smoking?

It gets ever more bizarre.
Why has it anything to do with how healthy the sport is?? Its only to do with how antisocial you are perceived by the majority of the voting population. I can't actually believe you needed me to say that.

This thread is like posting on a thread on religion and some of you can't actually hold a line of reasoning if it questions your religion.

Cycling is beneficial to your health and the majority of people doing it are benefitting themselves by exercising, but that has nothing to do with anything on the thread. Is that enough or do I need to flog myself?

It works both ways, on Saturday I was doing a triathlon and the ride was on mainly very minor open country roads. At one point i am overtaking another competitor on a single track road. Due to the no drafting rules I am pushing on a bit doing around 20mph. Ask am mid overtake Mrs Numpty comes screaming up behind me and couldn't be bothered to wait for a couple of seconds for me to finish my overtake. She then overtakes nearly wiping me out. About 50 yards down the road she slams the anchors on and turns right into a farm driveway.

Absolutely crap driving. She could have remained behind both of us for about 5 seconds and turned onto the drive without almost wiping me out and putting her self through the windscreen as she slowed down.
Totally agree, the womans an idiot.

My attitude, that's a laugh. It was your bizarre story that generated 40 pages of discussion. This brought out the very worst on all sides, as it always does on PH. In the middle are people like me, who like to cycle, drive and ride, this group largely gets on with life and can see individuals for what they are.

Apparently I am the reason legislation is needed. Hmmm. In the meantime I'll continue to enjoy all my hobbies and share the roads, as I have always done so. The only thing that will happen over the next 10 years will be multiple threads by people, like you, moaning about the situations, outraged, generalising...

Basically your story is full of holes and has blown up.
Twaddle it wasn't my bizzare attitude at all.

I posted a simple thread about being held up by two idiots on bikes. Then came several pages on defence of those cyclist and calling me a liar first on the idea I couldn't have been held up more than a few minutes, and secondly that there would've been space to overtake along the journey.

Problem was I then posted fairly reasonable evidence for any normal argument and challenged you to first dispute that I could've overtaken and the time I had been unreasonably held back. There was then a bit of a silence where you analysed as much as you could and couldn't find anything to challenge it on. ..........then you simply called liar with no justification apart from it sorting your agenda, and a bunch of the rest of you did the same.

I'm not particularly anti bike, search my previous posts over ten years worth!!! What was interesting is that I looked up some of the main protagonists on this threads previous posts to see that most of them had similar form on ANY cycling thread which appears on PH.

A reasonable cyclist at that time would've just said, 'yeah they were being obnoxious' and left it at that rather like I did with the poster who was overtaken by the car and then pulled in on a few posts back.

instead of that your idea is to simply yell liar over and over again over forty pages, and try to present my post as fantasy. By the way is that forty pages or is that an estimate!

Blaming me for forty pages isn't really going to wash. The icing on the cake is that you like to present yourself as middle ground when really you aren't even close. Its really quite funny.

Very true. I find the unicorns and 7-legged dragons equally frustrating/excessive.

Until I wake up and remember they too were all fiction....
You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. Even a really stupid one.

You're not exactly coming from a position of strength wink
Mods cans we just close the thread. Its lived its life because there is no chance of an adult conversation here. And to be honest if you are going to let children post all through the holiday season you could at least kill off the odd thread they've made a complete mess of.
