FWIW, the GTR leaves me utterly cold. I really could not give a flying toss about it, and it certainly wouldn't be anywhere near a fantasy lottery-win garage. It's just blingy techno-wk.
It's top trumps ability is a bit more than bling techno-wk.768 said:
I wouldn't mind one, it's better than anything on my drive today. They're not even lottery money either.
Sure. But I can think of one HELL of a lot of more deserving recipients of that money...The cheapest in the Pistonheads classified is a £26k reshelled write-off. Mmmm-hmm... SO tempting. Ignoring that, £37k.
Well, bugger me, I could spend ALL DAY trying to narrow it down to about a dozen MUCH more deserving homes of my £37k...

Apparently there are a bunch of guys on the GTR forum who are trying to re-badge their cars.
With this...
I have to admit I much prefer the name Datsun, it just sounds chunky somehow, Nissan on the other hand is rather wishy washy. With this...
Although I am a bit of a Luddite and get all excited by Webbers and mechanicals etc, there is a spot in my fantasy garage for a current GTR. Mostly because its properly Japanese and a bit special (and the whole twin prop shafts, gearbox in the rear set up is damned funky).
A month or so ago I ended up following a Lamborghini Countach along the A1 in traffic, I got past him then gave him the thumbs up so he comes along side sticks his thumb up and burys his foot into the carpet a few times.
I can't tell you how much this made me smile. ( I had a poster of one on my bedroom wall as a kid)
The guy is a PH'r and replied to my post in the NE spotted thread.

Regardless of if you like GTRs or not, i like that the OP had a moment he enjoyed. Simply because another road user choose to go slightly out of his way.
If this happened more often, many peoples mundane journeys would be brightened up.
With regard to the whole GTR chavy thing.
Im in the camp i really like them, but probably wouldn't buy one if i was in a position too.
Number plates are fun for me and i simply dont get to emotional over them, like some appear to.

Not everyone aspires to a GTR, lottery win or otherwise. The mixed results of this thread display that.
It's quite simple.
Don't understand the attitude behind it that's all darling. Hard day in the office? It's quite simple.
I should have put "IMO" in that sentence but i assumed it was implied.

The "attitude" is simply folk have different tastes.
Glad you cleared it up though as you were just coming across as thick. IMO.
I too have had moments like this with a GT-R doing a fly-by my S2000 - it was bloody marvellous and felt like the very essence of what makes us PistonHeads - our passion and appreciation for car culture.
Is a GT-R a dream car for me? Yes.
I'd love some other more exotic things, granted, but I'd certainly consider it a dreamy car.

I can quite easily grasp that opinions differ from one person to the next. Great assumption work there though. You were coming across as a bellend. IMO.The "attitude" is simply folk have different tastes.

Really?Because you give the exact opposite impression with this line:

I think anyone who likes cars would probably say that if they won the lottery then this would be a definite contender on a "to-buy" list.
And that's after explicit posts to the contrary right above it!!walm said:

Such a snob!
What's "class" even got to do with it, Mr La-de-da?
Japanese cars:What's "class" even got to do with it, Mr La-de-da?
No heritage.
No character.
Anything Japanese has stigma for some age groups & demographics.
Japanese identified with heartless cynicism & greed attempting to challenge established global brands.
A love of plastic & automation.
No perception of design, vulgar clumsiness considered good enough to appeal to those without taste.
If you have made it in the world you don't turn up at the worlds best hotels corporate headquarters or grand homes in a Jap. car. They are for the masses.

So in your opinion, I should probably say that I'd want to buy a GTR. That is exactly what you're saying.
I like cars and waste a lot of money on them. I like different sorts of cars; ones that need a lot of driver interaction to get the best out of them in a grass-roots sort of way. I can appreciate a GTR for what it is and what it can do, but I don't want one. Many others who have posted on this thread have reached the same conclusion for their own reasons.
In your opinion, we probably all want a GTR - and we're all arrogant and the forum is a shambles because we don't.
