Just priced a V8 up on the Ford.co.uk website. V8, manual, convertible, all the options £40,875.

Still a good price, but it isn't a £30K car.

..... Well it won't be if you go bells and whistles will it ? - The range starts at £30,995 OTR

I'm really glad to see there's an appetite for these cars in the UK. Proves to the market that people really are sick of a uniform, beige tide of german diesels and little petrol turbos. Vive La Revolution!

I wonder how many are manuals...?
I'd argue the pony / muscle thing died years ago - the manufacturers don't make enough models to split them up like you used to be able to.

I just hired for a week a Mustang GT in Maui and I am very impressed, great all rounder with a proper engine. The front seats are comfortable and spacious and there is sufficient room for the luggage. The steering could be improved but I still had fun on the road to Haleakala carter, 10,000 ft above sea level. By the way really a great road with good visibility and little traffic in the afternoon and withput speed traps.
I won't buy it here in Italy for a number of reasons but in US it would be on my top list as the daily car.

Really like the mustang! Who says its not a practical car? Its big enough for a family and a pram in the boot! If I'd the cash for the petrol there would be no thinking twice.
They seem popular as I've already seen two here in NI and it usually takes a while for unusual cars to make it this far.

Bloody hell.. The ecoboost is €53k over here, the V8 starts at €109k

You guys are still getting mugged compared to the yanks, but a v8 stang for 40k is actually debatable..

I just borrowed a GT from my dealer for a long weekend to do a 400 mile road test and can confirm they are great GT cars. No they aren't sports cars but neither are Audis.

It averaged 25 mpg over the 400 miles so better than the official figures.

My summary is:

Sport mode makes it feel a little sharper
No grip in the wet on the p zeros.
Top gear makes for super relaxed motorway progress
Headrests are uncomfortable
Seats are comfortable
Big fun above 3500 revs
Some cheapness is evident
Cup holders are unusable on the manual
Makes you want to drive for no reason
Sounds great

Most of the negative points can be resolved by different tyres, a tune etc

Imagine a bmw 650i with a manual box, less soft touch plastic, a better noise, better looks, and more smiles per mile

Agree to some extent on the steering. There's no feel but it is accurate and no worse than 95% of new cars on sale. It's certainly better than my E90 Alpina steering.

However, there really isn't anything irrational about choosing a Mustang. It's quite big but not huge and mine's averaged 23mpg from new and will do close to 30 on a run. Certainly a load more fun than a TT.

most people will be sensible and go for the v8 manual for 35k

dont forget uk prices incl 20% Vat and £1100 first year 'road tax' and us prices often dont incl taxes

I can see everyone is shocked by the "rational car choice" ... I agree, why would it not be rational ?

Personally I don't think a diesel car should be considered as sporty at all. Who buys a V8 and thinks about Mpg ? ??

The former is a subset of the latter, IMO.

I honestly can't think of anything the TT does better as a sporty type of car, other than "be German" which admittedly seems to be the primary criteria for many British car buyers suffering from a maturity complex.
I can - width. I haven't driven a current generation Mustang but I've driven "sporty" cars of similar size and for me it's a serious limitation to the lines you can choose on twisty, narrow roads.

Don't get me wrong, I'd still rather have the V8 Mustang than any TT, but it is a serious point against the Ford for me.

This is great news. That's because hopefully Ford will start to consider selling the F150 Raptor over here and then I can buy one cloud9

Any UK Mustang owners fitted one of these http://www.roushperformance.com/parts/2015-2016-Fo...

That would liven it up a bit.

I rather suspect UK buyers are too obsessed with the short term value of the manufacturer's warranty for it to be a serious proposition for most new buyers and for used buyers it'll be a big proportion of the cost of the car. Probably still a good way to end up with a VERY fast car for not an enormous amount of money, but I can't see take-up being significant.

I've seen three in the past week, and all were being driven like (by) total bellends... One in particular accelerating hard to sit right on the bumper of the car in front, then dropping back, and repeating... in a 30 limit. It was a V8 and it sounded lovely, but it was appalling driving. Both others were being driven very aggressively also.

Shame, as they are gorgeous things.

Rather off-topic, but I had an Alfa 4C roadster doing that to me a few days ago. And rather amusingly, slowing down to what looked like walking pace to go around well sighted roundabouts which I was happily taking at 30.

It was first 4C roadster I'd seen on the road, shame to see it being driven like that.

And the Audi TTS starts at £42k BEFORE adding any toys.

The Mustang makes so much sense to anyone wanting a nice looking coupe or convertible. Forget the other groups, sports car, gt, racecar etc etc. It's primarily a 2 door coupe or convertible. Which automatically groups it with TT's, POrches, 6ers etc. You can throw in 4 series as well as 6'ers.

I drove one across California last year in the 2.3t version and it was a LOT of car for peanuts. Over there they're under $25k - that's ridiculous. There was very little it didn't have either, the sync system is clever in that you can use your phone to turn it into integrated nav as well as a media centre. The cooled seats were so satisfying in californian heat. I loved the pony projection on the floor. Even at the higher UK price, they're still much cheaper than any thing close to it's class new for new. It's got more character than any of the other combined. It's like a big happy but simple bloke having a great time while every one else takes themselves seriously and look miserable for it.
And forget pretenses, it handles very well. Banging it down mountain roads I felt in control all the time. I could feel it gripping nicely and the chassis felt much more rigid than I expected given it was the convertible.

I'm a German car fanatic - but I would have a new generation stang without much thought if I was in the market.

There is a downside though - the curve in the bonnet makes it a bd to see over.
And on the convertible, you don't get any more boot space with the roof up.
