I asked a not dissimilar question here recently, and got some great answers. You can find the thread in my profile.

It's the Tekna the Mrs has, same engine

Whilst it's a very nice car, the 30k list for that model is a bit silly. For a big car with a small engine, it actually feels fast enough, but engine and gearbox are incredibly tractor-like. Interior and toys (self parking etc) are very nice.

Xc60 or are they too expensive at 2 yr old? Lease deals are ridiculously cheap on these at the moment too with the new model due in a yr or so.

We've just picked up a Kuga for just under £16k. Any Kuga Titanium or above built after October 2015 comes with SYNC2. This gives you a 8in touch screen, rather than the tiny 4.5 screen the previous version came with.
Ours also came with auto parking, rear view camera, sat nav, city stop braking, upgraded 9 speaker Sony sound system and a detachable tow bar. Got to love the depreciation on big Fords. Only 2k miles on the clock, it had more than £10k knocked off the official list price!

That sounds like a winner, tell me more about how you got that deal!

Nothing special, didn't even need to haggle. Was up for sale at a local Ford dealer. They hadn't listed any of the extras on the advert and the car was priced the same as similar vehicles without the extras. It's in white which wouldn't be my preferred colour, but the wife loves it.
What probably makes the difference is that I was looking for petrol engined front wheel drive manual cars. If you want a diesel 4x4 auto you'll probably find they're a few grand more expensive.

Still at 19k+ for age/mileage requirements. I can't find anything overly cheap lease wise either, only 2 deals on CHAL under £350pm on a 3+23

Yep, Auto pushes it out of budget! Several 2016 examples on autotrader though with the old screen, anew screen makes a huge difference to the interior.

Just as an aside, did you rate the X-Trail? I've found a new one at my local dealers, a 1.6 Tekna and it appears to tick my wife's boxes.
I'm in a similar situation as the OP but was considering

a newest shape X-trail
CX-5 - economy is meant to be good for the engine
Q5 (pricey)

how was the X-trail the 1.6 is putting me off, but everything (including my passat) seems 1.6 diesel these days!

My friend just got a 15 reg Kuga, looks like a lot of car for the money but the small boot is a real shame!

the 1.6 at 130ps never feels sluggish, it's just incredibly unrefined.

One of the attractions to the CX-5 for me is that you can remap the 150ps to 200ps smile It seems to be the pick of the bunch all round, and really well priced. Leather interior is rare which is a shame, but the cloth actually looks pretty good.

Yes, the screen makes all the difference to the interior. I'd originally budgeted £12-13k but wasn't impressed by the cars at that money. When I saw that £16k could get me a virtually brand new car with SYNC2 it was a no brainer.

I had a Renegade for a few days, quite liked it, electronic handbrake though, terrible things.
Just had a Renegade for the last 2 days and the electronic handbrake works like a dream. What's not to like?
