According to the guys at ROSPA pink hi-viz is the most effective choice of vest as yellow and orange ones are very common these days.

So I may invest in a pink tutu now!

Had to look that word up.....comes from Walter Mitty, pretending to be something you're not. Like it! smile

So, if I bought a white Astra/BMWwhatever else they use and wrote POLITE in all the right places along with all the other identical stickers would that be ok?

Cringy as fk.

At least the "Think bike - Think biker" campaign is about safety for bikers, not utter waltism like the "POLITE" vests

I wonder if any of the white BMW bike/white helmet/POLITE vest/helmet cam stereotypes have harassed a driver thats turned out to be an unmarked car? That would be an awkward conversation for them...

As an ex white Astra owner - I would say no. For the love of god, no.
Anything other than that car.

I see a chap on the M1 every morning in this gear, full on GoPro strapped to his white helmet, peering into cars as he passes.

Just a colossal penis.
I don't wanna tar everyone with the same brush but that is the exact impression i get from the type of people that would wear these.

I don't agree with the blatant impersonation of the POLICE logo at all. It's a potential excuse of the use of fake authority and power which is exactly what we don't want more of as far as i'm concerned.

I'm gonna stick my neck out here and be completely honest. I really don't get the whole "Think Bike" campaign. I understand that most probably won't share my opinion. I realise that bikers are a bigger risk on the roads but at times i think it simply excuses the behavior and actions of what they do/don't do.

Why do people hate on them? I think they dont like being tricked and so hate on the people doing it.

Does it work? I was given one to try so did test it out. I dont ride with a high-viz so it could be that but from one ride for about 2h threw London it worked quite well. People did just behave better.
I don't think many of us doubt that they may offer some effectiveness, but it's more a case of does the end justify the 'questionable' means. You could argue that sticking some battenberg on the back of your white 3 series estate would make people behave better in its presence, however it's not the role of joe public to give the impression that they're the law when they're not.

It would be interesting to hear the Police force's take on these Polite notices.

I think people that wear them are self-righteous pricks, but I don't treat them any differently to any other cyclist, horse rider or motorcyclist.

Hiviz jacket? - no problem at all.

With 'POLITE' written on it? You are a bell end.

They ARE trying to look like the police, otherwise you'd have 'caution' 'beware' 'look out' etc etc on it instead.

Utter fkwits the lot of them. Not someone is ever want to be associated with.

Doesn't massively bother me, but there does seem to be a very strong correlation between tt rider and these jackets.

It does also surprise me at the attitude of "I'm going to ride something dangerous, but its your fault when I ride like a tt especially because I put a ridiculously loud exhaust on so YOU can all hear me at 10pm at night for MY safety".

Again, a strong correlation between dirt bikes/loud bikes and tttish riding.

Past motorcycles ?

Must be a fast car, or do you mean cyclists ?

And do you mean you feel inclined to use your car to try to scare a vulnerable road user because they have an ill advised tabbard on ?

Whatever a cyclist is doing, or pedestrians for that matter, I just get round them and give them a wide berth, I dont use my car to teach them a lesson as I am in control of two tonnes of metal and if I do, if I get seen by the Police, I will be taught a lesson.
Nice bit of extrapolation there. You'll note that I used the word safely, and as someone who used to do several hundred miles a week on a bike, I know exactly what safely means.

Once you've got past them, you can chose to knock the car down a few gears and carry on, or wind it to the red line in second. If they are wearing such vests, I tend to do the latter. Having ridden with such people, I know exactly the sort of tutting that will ensue.

Dangerous?- Not in the slightest

Childish? Guilty as charged.

As I biker, I read it as "POLITE Notice, Think " smile

If you must, a regular/plain hi viz would be just as effective without the stigma.

Know lots of decent bikers, none of them would be seen dead in one. These are for the gopro tossers who film every single minor traffic thing and send it to the daily mail going on about their rights.
