Seems previous owner of my car didnt like getting his alignment sorted as it had a stance more like Tyrion Lannister so now the new tyres he fitted are seriously heavily worn on the shoulders so while they have still got 5mm or so left in some parts they certainly dont all over.

I need 225/45 R17 91W fronts and 245/40 R17 91W rears is it worth sticking with moe labeled stuff or is that worthles?

Michelin Pilot sport 4 or Pilot super sport are pretty good tyres.

Goodyear Asymmetric Eagle F1 3s are also pretty good, likely better on fuel but softer sidewalls

Just get the best tyres you can find.

I was going to suggest Pilot Sports as well, that's what I put on the Passat and they have awesome grip in the wet and dry.

Uniroyal Rainsport 3s.
Positive bargain and they grip like brown stuff to a blanket in the wet. Some may find them a little soft and fast wearing but at half the price of Michelins you can replace them twice for the same money!

Pilot super sports are one of the best in the dry but there pretty useless in wer. Contintel sport contact 6 or 5 are good all rounders.

Pilot Super Sports aren't made in your size, as others have said, the PS4 is regarded as the best tyre on the market at the moment.

A Pilot Super Sport will last around twice as long as Continental Sport Contact 6 if my experience and reviews are anything to go by.

Continental sports tyres always have poor wear.

Eagle F1 Asymmetric are a good choice if you value ride quality over handling sharpness.

I don't know if it's a coincidence, but when I had Eagle F1 3s, I was averaging 26mpg in my Golf Edition 30. I switched to PS4s 3000 miles ago and since then, it's been averaging 28mpg. Same tyre pressures and no other changes to the car.

The Pilot Sport 4 is also LOT better than the F1, in all the key areas. Lateral grip, traction, ride quality, noise, all of it.

At the end of the day buy any of the PS4s, Contact Sport5/6, Eagle F1 Assym 2/3.

If money is tight get the uniroyal rainsport 3.

Do not buy anything less than the RS3 eg Falkens, Toyos and especially not the budget rubbish like Wind Breakers, Barum, Nexen, Linglong etc

Some of the newish brands make surprisingly decent tyres these days. Nankang in particular seem to have made the jump from "ditch-finder" to "decent mid-range tyre brand" in the last few years. Yokohama now make some of the best "sports" tyres on the market, although obviously they're a more established brand.

After trying lots of them, I've given up with the premium branded tyres and now buy mid-range tyres which seem to represent better value with similar performance.

Recently chopped in the Eagle F1s which came with my car and replaced them with some Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's which seem to perform noticeably better and are also quieter.

Got to agree with the poster above. Having stuck with stuff like Eagle F1's, Conti Sport Contacts, Pilot Sports over the years I now go midrange with Vredstein, Toyo, Falken, Uniroyal etc. Unless you're driving at the very edge all the time they offer 95% of the performance for a lot less than the top brands.

As an example on Camskill at the moment 245/40 R17 Eagle F1's are £110 a corner. Rainsport 3's are £70 a corner and for me the time I want the best performance from a tyre is when it's wet and greasy on the road, which is what they are specifically designed for.

Not on my Passat they are not. Provide fantastic grip in the wet, really improves braking and even better is if you run through a puddle they have significant control....

I'd echo this... just put four on her Astra and I fall out the seat going round the roundabout at the top of the road way before it even hints at letting go. Very planted in the wet too, standing water doesn't seem to bother it either despite wearing 225's. Mega cheap for what they are too, I paid £240.00 for the four (225/40/18)

I've had both michelin pilot supersports and pilot sport 4 and they are great in the wet, astonishing in the dry.

I went from Asymmetric Eagle F1 2s to PSS and my fuel consumption went up on my old FR TFSI. Worth it of course, 2-4mpg overall is barely notable. Guess the PS4 may have closed the gap this generation, or even exceeded the Goodyear tyre.

My wife has really shoddy tyres on her Alfa. She chose them and hence got the cheapest. I can't even remember what they are called, but they seem to grip ok and are not lethal in the wet. I have provoked them extensively!
OK, they only have 150ish bhp in a small car to deal with, but they seem to do what she needs them to do.

Ignore this regarding the Super Sports OP, this person clearly hasn't driven them in the wet.

They are massively impressive in the dry and very good in the wet.

I had a set on my c55aa and they were great in the dry, average at best in the wet. They had worn out on 4.5k miles.

Lastest evo mag review of tyres there the best in the dry and 1 of the worst in the wet.

But yeh ignore my opinion your obviously right

Pilot sports or super sports? Completely different tyres.

+1 for the super sports. One of the best road tyres available. Wonder when we will see the super sport 2? The super sport has been out a while now.

From what ive read the ps4 replaces the ps3 and is better than the ss in 99% of situations (track) but the ss is superceded by the sc2 for track use.
