Older Citroens with hydraulic suspension. Don;t see many BX, XM, Xantia etc down my way
Very true. I went looking for one to buy and there were barely any at all.

Also Mazda Xedos 6 and 9 - never all that common but incredibly rare now.

70s and 80s Renaults (well, all French cars, really)

I'd love a Renault 16!

Don't see any E34 5 series these days, even the old rule that if you own one you see more doesn't ring true!

Even relatively recent cars like the Audi A4 B5 are becoming rare and they were in production until 2001.

sadly the scrappage took the tidy older cars a lot were nice one older owner , they were cars that would have been kept or without the scappage traded in and found there way on to the better back street used car lots, ,rust and neglect took the others ,
Are you sure about that?

Some years ago I had a Mazda 323F (the one with pop-up lights) as my first car, at that time a friend had Xedos 6 2.0 V6. Damn it was smooth.
I've had both in my time. The 323F GT was a damned good car. The Xedos6 was silky smooth but needed to be revved everywhere as it had no torque. Sounded lovely....

You rarely see any old bangers on the road these days. Why? Because the new going council is buying new cars on finance.

I guess this overall makes the roads safer except for those work vans which will often be the only bangers on the road.

Mk1 Mondeo, Renault 5, Fiat tipo, mk2 Astra's i couldn't tell you last time i seen any of these on the roads. Most of the banger boys have got their hands on the mondeos now though so they will be running out fast.

I saw a 1980's Rover 216se on the road the other day, had to do a double take. Don't think I'd seen one in at least a decade, probably more.

I can think of a few but to be fair they were rare in period (I've own/ed 1 or 2) but you certainly don't see many mk3/4 escorts these days.

In the last year I've seen a single Mk1 Mondeo and two Mk2 Mondeos. They used to be everywhere!

My last one was a black version R. They don't come up for sale very often. Great things but silly to insure and difficult to work on.

I keep an eye on eBay for when one comes up. Hard to find one in good nick that doesn't have a body kit. They're usually under £800 too.

No they're not. They might be on estates that used to be local authority but are now privately owned. People on council estates drive Mk3 Mondeos, Mk1 Focuses etc. There are plenty of good sericable 10 -15 year old cars out there that can be bought for peanuts. This is the reason that 15-25 year old cars are disappearing. Why pay hundreds to get a Mk2Mondeo through its test when you can buy a good Mk3 for £500. You might also be supprised to know that quite a lot of people on council estates don't own cars. Many of the guys on minimum wage where I work getted picked up by a mini bus on a morning because they don't have a car.

I've had two Mk. 1 Clios, but I don't think I've seen another one in about 8 years (except for one slightly shabby-looking Clio Williams, but can't remember where I saw it).

There are still loads of Mk. 2 around.

People keep going on about the scrappage scheme. It was years ago now, so most of those cars would have been scrapped by now anyway! I think a very small proportion would still be on the road all this time later.
