If you did get an E Class then it will be auto - MB doesn't do a manual version.
That's what I thought

You can clearly see it says "Manual" though.

Ives used enterprise and europe car a lot recently. Enterprise have been the best by far. Europe car I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. Enterprise have a fair wear and tear policy for any little dinks and dents. If they have to put fuel in they do so at a good rate.

My misses used to work for them, the only reason it says manual is so that auto only licence holders cant complain if it is a manual. It will probably be auto.

I assumed it was so they could list the auto separately and charge more for it.

Of course you often don't get the example car shown, so it could well be a manual something else.

They really aren't that organised, executive fleet is a logistical nightmare for them. Be super flexible and when you are alone with the salesperson let them know that if you end up with a nice car via a gratis upgrade (they have to upgrade if ur level of car is unavailable) you will take the insurance or excess guff that they have to make target on.

Used them once to provide a courtesy car after an insurance claim. Cannot complain about the service. My similar car to the Volvo V70 was a Mercedes E320 which was sent to pick me up at much the same time the Volvo was carted off. The formalities at the branch were just as easy. Could be different at other branches but I have no complaints.

The Mondeo would be in their 'standard' range which is less than half the price of the Large Premium, so I doubt they'd get away with that particular substitution. I'd phone your local office - you should get a better deal for a repeat booking, and they can tell you which car you are likely to get.
General feeling on PH seems to be that Europcar are better than Enterprise, but my experience is the opposite - Europcar (Hemel and High Wycombe) were useless compared with Enterprise (High Wycombe).

It's an expensive way of doing things though - another £100 a month or so and you could lease an E Class, and get to drive it every day!

if you're picking up at a reasonable sized depot, I would just rent the smallest then have a wonder round the cars, find the one you like, and upgrade to that. Most of the time the people at the desk dont really care which you take

There's another thread knocking about on Enterprise which talks about the hoops you have to go through on private rentals. Certainly need proof of where you live ( utility/council tax bills) and/or where you work. Apart from that they have been ok and vehicles as represented and booked.

They're open to a bit of haggling on the price too.

As for availability of vehicles, our local branch is quite small, and obviously choice is limited for short notice rentals. But with notice their stock is serviced from the large pool at Longbridge which iirc services Midlands, Wales and up into the North West. So assuming similar arrangements elsewhere then suspect you'll get what you order.

Online prices, especially in advance are often better than direct phone bookings, and just to reiterate, even if you've booked on one of their weekend special deals, which can be very good value, you can still haggle on the insurance charges.

Unlimited mileage definitely.

As for the others. Corporate we used Hertz, who were fine, changed to European when Hertz, or at least our local joint, seemed to have a rent a wreck phase. Europcar were fine, though the one private van rental I had from them was a complete effing disgrace hence trying Enterprise, with whomI have stayed for private stuff.

I'm starting to see why Loon got banned. It's not even as though I particularly care, or especially want to come across as rude (which I don't, I just haven't the will to explain fully).

OP, if you want a prem, book a prem. The excess'll be massive and the deposit too. Expect to be cash qualled and refused service if you get shirty about answering the questions.
A well run branch will call and go through this with you, a poorly run branch won't. To be sure of good service, do pick up the phone if you haven't heard from them pretty swiftly.

They are the ones our form uses for long trips when it's cheaper than forking out 45ppm or when staff are travelling to the back of beyond. Overall they've been good - drop off and collect service can be patchy and their idea of an upgrade can be laughable. I've also used them personally and was given a gratis upgrade (probably because they were out of Vectra class cars)

Wrong? All stuff from personal experience and some direct knowledge, so with respect, not wrong.

All you can say is wrong. Others might call you a , but I won't as that would be incorrect seeing as you don't have the depth. Go forth etc.

We use them through work.
They will pick you up - and they always offer a lift back.
Easier for me to walk in instead.
Cars are always fresh, staff always friendly but compared to other rentals they ask a lot of questions then tap them into their computer - fair enough but rent again a fortnight later and they ask exactly the same questions and tap them all in again.
In addition to all the ID questions and proof such as a card authorisation with deposit of £200 / Driving Licence etc
Do you own a car ? Where do you work ? What do you do there ? How long have you worked there ? Why do you need the car ? Where are you going ? What is the purpose of your trip ? How many people in the car ? When will you be returning the car.
Every time.
Booking online or booking with the central phone number seems to annoy the local branch staff for some reason. Why didn't you ring us direct ? I didn't make the booking ! They usually write on your confirmation that you can have 10% discount if you book directly with the branch - of course there is always a 10% discount for paying in advance online anyway. One difference being - if you ring and make a booking no payment changes hands until you collect the car - which may make cancelling easier.
If I can I always book by ringing branch staff.

Another thing they do is pester the crap out of you once the booking is made.
They ring to confirm the booking, they ring the morning of the booking to make sure you are coming, they ring after you have collected the car to find out if you are happy, they ring the morning the car is due back to make sure you are coming, and then often they will ring an hour or so before the agreed rental return time asking where you are ?

Sometimes they will ring you to apologise they don't have ANY cars. Usually they sort something out for you if you kick off. Think they are looking for the path of least resistance.

The staff are never the same after about six months they have either been moved elsewhere within Enterprise or left altogether.

UK Car Hire With US Customer Service ? No it isn't.

...but they are better than any of the others we have tried.

I always book on line and have never had any of these issues. Probably ten rentals in the last 12 months.

I get Large Premium's from Enterprise if I ever get a car from BMW ES. Last one was an E Class.

We used to use Enterprise when travelling to the US with Mrs FTR. Several times we arrived to find that they didn't have the car class that we booked.

We'd be taken out into the lot and offered a choice of cars - both free upgrades. We had a run of cars from them that had little issues - crap wipers, bashed door mirrors. Just little stuff that you'd expect them to keep on top of.

We switched to Hertz because they were doing a really good discount for pre-booking at the time and have stuck with them since.

If you stick with Enterprise, OP, I'd check with the branch that they have what you want, or an acceptable alternative a day or so before you need it.

Hertz have always been decent for me. I've not used Enterprise but I've heard average reviews about them. Nothing bad, nothing outstanding. Make of that what you will. Rented a van through Europcar a few years ago and they were also very good.

We use Avis at work and they're perfectly decent vehicles for corporate usage, although they seem to be very reluctant to build on that for personal rentals. I rang twice to book a large car for a week's personal usage, never got a call back. I ended up going with Zipcar instead. The local Avis guys are pretty lazy too, the cars are usually a bit dirty when delivered and I've noticed a surprising fuel consumption for the 4 miles they're supposed to cover on delivery on a full tank. Nonetheless, I've not had a serious issue with an Avis car so they're useable for work purposes, not sure I'd want one privately though.

ETA: Avis cars are a gamble, I've had fantastic cars in the same group before (top-spec Giulietta, top-spec Passat, even the Peugeot 3008 was surprisingly good) and dreadful cars too (base spec Ford Focus, Peugeot 307). It's a bit exciting to see what is delivered on the drive, although recently I've gone from Mokkas and decent VAG cars to base Focii and very slow Astras.

I think that if anything Enterprise have brought some more American Customer Service to the car rental market. I find them more professional than the likes of Budget, Avis and Hertz who seem to sit on their laurels and be complacent. Enterprise also seem to have cars readily available as emergency courtesy cars. Some of their cars on their fleet are pretty decent compared to the drab fleets on the others. Rent a Focus - get a BMW 3 series. Not bad.
