QFT - have to say that I really can't see the point in checking plate etc but now that it's been done reportage should follow. To those who say "don't grass" etc, where do you draw the line? Someone regularly drink drives? Someone regularly takes drugs? Someone deals occasionally? Bloke a few doors down regularly leathers his wife? Only slightly off topic...I've noticed that at car shows there is nothing that some members of the public love doing than to click on to whatever the app is, enter the registration of whatever car they are looking at to establish the year/engine size etc & them smugly brag to the owner the information obtained. The real joy is to establish that a car has a humble size engine & then with a sneer enjoy telling the owner so.

A friend gave a Swiss colleague a lift home late one evening as a massive favour. The colleague reported him to the police for speeding. The Swiss are rather overly prone to reporting people to the police. The same chap was shopped by his neighbours for parking his car in the wrong spot (he was new to Switzerland at the time - which his neighbours knew )

How it was discovered is irrelevant.
The guy is driving around without tax, it needs bringing to his attention.
As it's a neighbour I can understand why you might not want to do it face-to-face. Confrontation is best avoided if possible.
In this instance it is possible to do it nicely. Send him a letter, a note on the windscreen, whatever.
Give it a couple of weeks and check again, still not taxed? Still on the road?
Then he's had his chance, shop him.
All of those whinging at curtain twitchers, you wouldn't be complaining if they spotted your car being broken into and noted down a description and the car reg.
The guy is driving around without tax, it needs bringing to his attention.

Oh no, it's the friend of the neighbour..... So the OP can keep an eye out for him to visit again, then sneak over perhaps and plant the message.......Very odd responses to this thread. Given the lack of police, and the fact that Anpr pings are so numerous they can't all be processed (apparently) the more people reporting these cars the better in my opinion.
There was a car dumped on our estate for 6 months. No tax or mot and taking up a parking space in a place with already limited parking. So I reported it to the council and it got taken away 5 days Later. Are the mind your own business gang suggesting I Should I have just ignored it until it rusted away?

OP I would shop their ass. They could inflict life-changing injuries on someone and a cheap-ass hairdresser's motor and a fancy plate isn't going to cover years of specialist attention that wiping a cyclist or motorcyclist out at any speed will require.
