I think people need to wind their necks in.

(I mean on here, not the OP).

You should have a think about the real reason why you want to report him to the police - I suspect it's nothing to do with 'thinking about the children.' rolleyes

You don't know that he is uninsured.

Deep down you know that anonymous reporting has a bit of a stigma, particularly if you live in a close community - it's unlikely that you're going to get validation here of your action for this sort of crime.

If it bothers you that much you should approach him directly, 'mano a mano'. hehe

Ok, I'll bite.

I assume they are either under 3 years old, or using some classic exemption? I like a bit of pedantry every now and then, so good point! thumbup

Having said that, quite a few threads in spl recommend these checks. Part of reason they're online is to allow a bit of self policing.

Given we know the police don't have the capacity to check every car, is everyone above therefore ok with important motoring rules being ignored?

Insurance won't put a kid back together again, but an mot check would have spotted poor brakes, worn tyres or suspension that could cause an accident.

This isn't hard stuff to work out, surely...?

"I don't know how karmic reporting him would be. And is it really anonymous? "

We had a beaten up car parked in the layby outside our house last month. Front all dinged, no sign of owner, it came up as uninsured on AskMid, no MOT, no tax. Neighbourhood Watch reported it to 101, who said it was notified as 'scrapped' to DVLA, advised to call council, and also report to DVLA, all anonymously. Towed away two days later.

So my neighbour has a wierd friend. This guy is eccentric but quite rich.

For example he drives a 1998? BMW Z3. Turquoise. Worth around £3k. He bought it off the neighbour and ran it around on the neighbours own private plate for a good year before finally putting it on his own. This was 4 years ago.

But his personalised plate, one of many he has is worth around £70k.

Anyway, for another reason I did a check on that plate and he hasn't taxed or MOT'd the car it is on for 3 years.

Now should I report him for this? Because it is likely he is uninsured. Should I feel guilty if he killed a child or something? I don't know how karmic reporting him would be. And is it really anonymous? he is a "gentleman of stature" I guess that is the closest way of putting him in our local community.

Thanks

I think we have found the reason he wants to report him.

Jealous of his money.

Why else would you look this information up.

Does reporting someone have any more impact than simply leaving them to drive through whatever ANPR and other cameras are out there?

As in it's not like the authorities don't know there's no tax and MOT etc.

The "anyway, for another reason I did a check on that plate and he hasn't taxed or MOT'd the car it is on for 3 years" thing does sound a little odd tbh.

When was that? People used to live in tiny villages where there was no such thing as their own business.

Ok I'll bite (slow thread day). What if the op hadn't acquired this information deliberately but, for instance, heard the guy boasting about it? Personally knowing people who've lost thousands after being hit by uninsured drivers, I'd shop his ass off. The 'Mano a mano' approach is very Sir Galahad' but can go very badly.

All that jazz

yes

Personalised plate info often shows up incorrectly on those sites anyway so can't be relied upon to be accurate. I speak from experience on that one.

This is what people with money do. Only poor/average folks buy new cars (on finance).

Maybe he is insured - there's no confirmation from the OP one way or the other.

Seeing as the guy is a "gentleman of stature" in the local community he's unlikely to resort to punch (unless he's referring to him being built like a brick sthouse laugh)

If, as suggested, the perpetrator has a fleet of cars it may have slipped his mind and he would appreciate the reminder.

Thank god the OP isn't my neighbour, and that ain't because my cars aren't insured, I would just hate to have such a nosy waste of breath living anywhere near me.

How could the car be insured with no mot or tax? Perhaps when the policy was taken out it had both but if they have subsequently lapsed, you really think the insurers would honour a claim?

Definitely, make it your mission. Also start checking everybody else in your area, people at work, colleagues during any social interaction and family members. You cannot be too careful here, somebody somewhere may be doing something you could be informing on them for. Never let your guard down. The well being of civilised societies depends on people like you.

I ran the check because the neighbour was boasting about how rich his friend was. Having a general gist of private plates I wondered who in their right mind would put a plate worth around 70k on an old bmw z3... I presumed he had just bought some plates off ebay and stuck them on to impress the neighbour so I ran a check and sure enough the plates match the car but then it said the car hasn't been MOT'd or taxed for 3 years.

I would have thought a load of people on PH would be more pissed about a guy not paying insurance, tax or MOT on a car for 3 years than what or why I looked it up.

There are no ANPR cameras around here.

Yeah I am so jealous of a guy who owns a 98 z3.
