Thank god the OP isn't my neighbour, and that ain't because my cars aren't insured, I would just hate to have such a nosy waste of breath living anywhere near me.
I just moved to the NW, so...it could be possible.

Not condoning his actions "if" true.

But whats with the fking jobsworth keyboard warriors around here lately? Get a life man/woman, pull your nose from out of your curtain, leave the house and do something other than poking your nose into something that doesn't concern you.
Someone posting on a public forum that I contribute too? Its quite hard to keep my nose out of this thread....

Personally I think you're all being a bit harsh on the OP.

How could the car be insured with no mot or tax? Perhaps when the policy was taken out it had both but if they have subsequently lapsed, you really think the insurers would honour a claim?
Why wouldn't they? And why do you think tax and MOT would invalidate insurance?

I ran the check because the neighbour was boasting about how rich his friend was. Having a general gist of private plates I wondered who in their right mind would put a plate worth around 70k on an old bmw z3... I presumed he had just bought some plates off ebay and stuck them on to impress the neighbour so I ran a check and sure enough the plates match the car but then it said the car hasn't been MOT'd or taxed for 3 years.

I would have thought a load of people on PH would be more pissed about a guy not paying insurance, tax or MOT on a car for 3 years than what or why I looked it up.

There are no ANPR cameras around here.
To try and balance this out, I agree and think you should report it.

If you want to join the Police, do so. Otherwise best to keep your snooping to yourself. Personally I think it's deeply weird.

You're coming across as a bit of an idiot.
The thread obviously hasn't gone the way you'd anticipated, just leave it, and hope it eventually fizzles out biglaugh

Mob mentality , pretty predictable.

I doubt that the car is uninsured etc. With the sorn rules it's nigh impossible for a car to be 'off the radar'

How would it work then?
He bought a half decent car off a neighbour & still knows him
Impossible to get away with it id say. The 'system' would have been onto them within weeks of not being taxed or insured. I'd guess it is perfectly legal, the checkers are often incorrect where private plated are concerned

Definitely, make it your mission. Also start checking everybody else in your area, people at work, colleagues during any social interaction and family members. You cannot be too careful here, somebody somewhere may be doing something you could be informing on them for. Never let your guard down. The well being of civilised societies depends on people like you.
Oh FFS now you've put the idea into his head....................... Just needs a little brown shirt to wear whilst out and about too.......

I'd report him.
He's breaking the law.
I'd do the same if it was drink driving, dangerous driving or anything else where the rest of us pay our way/behave responsibly and they try to sidestep their responsibilities.

The funniest thing about this thread, excluding the normal ph mob mentality, is that tomorrow someone will start a thread about the fact that their insurance has gone up again this year and it's not fair that their kids will now starve and the dog will run away because they can't afford his weekly treat.

It goes up because people get away with not having any and when they crash, we pay.

OP, shop the crap out of him and save us all a few quid.

This.

The whole "mind your own business" attitude reminds me of the "You don't grass to the Police" that you get on rough estates were a few select individuals make peoples life hell.

Checking the plate in the first place is a bit weird but once you know that the car isn't Mot'd then I'd report him. I know a lad who was hit by an uninsured driver and suffered lasting damage to his back as well as writing off his mint E36 328. It took years for the issue to be resolved though the MIB and as in this case the other driver was actually quite affluent.

Someone bumps your car when your not there. Someone else witnesses it, should they mind their own business?
You're hit ny an uninsured driver. People knew he wasn't insured but decided to mind their own business.

The level of "I'm alright Jack, fk you" displayed on PH sometimes is quite sad.

I hope someone smacks your car it's seen by someone else but they choose to mind their own business.

Dunno, just assumed knowing how good sone companies are at finding excuses not to pay out. Could they not argue that without a valid mot the car may have been unfit to drive? Anyway, willing to stand corrected.

Yes, the whole don't grass thing is a bit playground, I agree.
