I'd report him.
He's breaking the law.
I'd do the same if it was drink driving, dangerous driving or anything else where the rest of us pay our way/behave responsibly and they try to sidestep their responsibilities.
I think we all agree that if we saw a dangerous driver or someone who you thought was drink driving that it's right to report it.

What I'm unclear on here is, the authorities already know that there is no tax or MOT on the car surely, as you're using their own database when you check so you can determine whether or not to report them? confused

They may know the car is untaxed/no MOT but they may not know where to find the car. The database relies on owners to inform the authorities when they move house. If someone hasn't done so then the car becomes hard to find and action hard to take.

Except the new & previous owners know each other . It's legal, the system doesn't always like private plates

I love these threads.

The first response to the OP is negative so the PH lemmings follow. If the first response had said shop the guy, there would have been a whole load of other replies along the same lines.

I'll bet that if one of the respondents telling the OP to mind his own, was hit by an uninsured driver, they would wish someone had shopped them.
Sad but true. It's like the weak kids at school who stand behind the bully shaking their fists at his victim. biggrin

I hope someone smacks your car it's seen by someone else but they choose to mind their own business.

Some of you people really are massive bellends aren't you.
You think that is comparative to someone checking (breaching the usage terms) up on a neighbour's friend?

Mob mentality , pretty predictable.

I doubt that the car is uninsured etc. With the sorn rules it's nigh impossible for a car to be 'off the radar'
There is evidence that the car has no tax or MOT, but any assumption that there is no insurance is just speculation.

And why do so many people think that not having an MOT or tax invalidates your insurance? What if it fails the MOT and you have to drive it to the MOT station for a retest? What if your SORN it and it catches fire on your driveway, or is stolen?

If you've got a gripe with the man, try the old fashioned approach..... Speak to him. OK it's not an exact science but one of the downsides of the internet is that it lets people become 'Dick Dastardly' detectives, draw their own conclusions and cause trouble without the subject of the issue ever knowing it was going on.

Speak to him...

And say what? "Hey man, my neighbour says you are wealthy and I've looked up some of your plates and they are worth over 50k so I guess you are, but I also decided to check your MOT online and guess what......."

If the OP is so concerned why did he need to ask on here for reassurance to report it and not just do it?

Ill tell you one thing about private plates.

They are very rarely worth what people say they are.

Look at the dross on ebay with £20k asking prices that are worthless.

S1MON, A1, HOT1 are worth good money but most just arent.

What is his plate?

No, I think it's comparable to minding your own business when you know someone is driving in a car with no MOT or insurance.

The standard you walk past is the standard you get. The idea that it's not my business if someone is not complying with some pretty basic requirements for driving is just mad in my opinion. Every other driver could potentially suffer negative consequences as a result of peoples failure to follow these requirements.

The Police and the state are not some separate entity yhat enforces arbitrary and unjust rules. This country is a democracy and is Policed by consent. The majority agree with the laws and as such abide by them. If people choose to ignore perfectly reasonable laws that are there to protect us all there is no good justification to get angry if other people take exception to this.

It's about taking responsibility for the society we want to live in. Comments about brown shirts are just silly outside of a dictatorship or a Police state.

Hi, I was being nosey about your private plate and noticed that your car is not listed as Taxed or MOT'd. Just thought I'd mention it as Police cars have ANPR equipment fitted and also your car might be dangerous.

It's about having balls.
