Hi, I was being nosey about your private plate and noticed that your car is not listed as Taxed or MOT'd. Just thought I'd mention it as Police cars have ANPR equipment fitted and also your car might be dangerous.

It's about having balls.
Not even that. Just not being an utter pussy.

Ill tell you one thing about private plates.

They are very rarely worth what people say they are.

Look at the dross on ebay with £20k asking prices that are worthless.

S1MON, A1, HOT1 are worth good money but most just arent.

What is his plate?
Is S1MON being advertised for sale?

You don't think that's at all suspicious?

Oh, I just looked up your private plate. Oh, I looked up your MOT and Tax details (where I have to confirm it is my own vehicle?!)... Oh, no, don't worry I'm not a stalker, just a wierdo who looks up details of the friends of neighbours?!?

It's not about having courage, it's about not sounding like he is going to be tied up and chopped into bits in the cellar next week...

The whole point of his interest is due to his neighbour having money.

He points out the guy has a old Z3 to make his case in his eyes legitimate.

No one would mention his neighbour has many expensive number plates if he is only interested in the problem at hand.

Pure jealousy.

So my neighbour has a wierd friend. This guy is eccentric but quite rich.

For example he drives a 1998? BMW Z3. Turquoise. Worth around £3k. He bought it off the neighbour and ran it around on the neighbours own private plate for a good year before finally putting it on his own. This was 4 years ago.

But his personalised plate, one of many he has is worth around £70k.

Anyway, for another reason I did a check on that plate and he hasn't taxed or MOT'd the car it is on for 3 years.

Now should I report him for this? Because it is likely he is uninsured. Should I feel guilty if he killed a child or something? I don't know how karmic reporting him would be. And is it really anonymous? he is a "gentleman of stature" I guess that is the closest way of putting him in our local community.

Thanks

Would he report this guy if he did not have a number of private plates with one worth £70k?

The only reason he is interested in this man is due to the fact he has money and wants to take him down a peg or two.

If it was purely just for the sake of protecting other road users why mention his status.

Most of his post is regarding this guys position of stature.

Surely you can see this for yourself.

So the guy is driving illegally , which in my mind once known should be reported, like any other illegal activity that you are aware about. How and why the OP got the information is now
irrelevant, the fact is member of the public is driving illegally. Report it.

Only slightly off topic...I've noticed that at car shows there is nothing that some members of the public love doing than to click on to whatever the app is, enter the registration of whatever car they are looking at to establish the year/engine size etc & them smugly brag to the owner the information obtained. The real joy is to establish that a car has a humble size engine & then with a sneer enjoy telling the owner so.
This I actually witnessed at the recent Supercar show at Wilton House near Salisbury recently. I suspected that most of the straw-in-their-hair oiks were jealous & owned nothing better than a Chaved up old banger.

I have a z3 with a private number plate...
Sadly it is a very sensible dark blue, but OP, you are welcome to buy both plate and car for £70k to fit in with the neighbours...

yes Personally, I wouldn't be checking up on him in the first place but if the OP has decided to do it and has a gripe with the neighbours mate, have a chat with the neighbours mate... All this sneaking around in the shadows solves nothing.. I'd certainly speak to the bloke in question before reporting them.. Even if it's out of courtesy...

OP speak to the guy or your neighbour, had you done this before coming on here & started with:

I spoke to my neighbours friend over a week ago about his untaxed/M.O.T car & he's done nothing about it according to the DVLA.

Should I report him?

You'd have got a much better response because your OP comes across as green eye has made you run checks on this person, sidebar but have you checked up on the rest of your neighbours?

OP seems to be getting an unjustifiably hard time. Looked like an expensive plate on a cheap car, so he looked it up to confirm if the plate was indeed registered with the car, and then happened to find out that it wasnt taxed or MOT'd. Perhaps none of his business, but he isn't the first person in the world to be idly interested in something that doesn't directly concern them. It doesn't sound to me that it's a jealousy issue, but PH masses are often quick to leap to this conclusion.

The only thing I find surprising is that people ask for validation of their moral compass - if it bothers you OP, report to 101 or speak to your neighbour. I'm sure all the people on here jumping on the bandwagon saying "mind your own business" etc etc would be quick to bleat on here when an uninsured driver hit their car.
