I have to say I am impressed.

5 pages in and not a mention of an electric car.

Are us PH fans getting use to the fact electric is the future?

Or did we just forget about them?

Mercedes. Irrational hatred from watching F1 in the late 90s. Detest the Mercedes badge on their cars. Shame because the older cars look beautiful - although no experience of how they drive.

I have a rational hatred of SUVs and SUV-lite e.g. Nissan Quashi and Juke. My girlfriend shares my hatred of the Juke.

For any affidavit, I do drive a slate grey diesel Audi A6. My sum driving experience has been:
1. Manual Vauxhall Corsa (driving lessons)
2. Manual Puegeot 306 (driving lessons)
3. Auto Toyota Yaris (driving lessons)
4. Auto Audi A6 (daily drive)

Thus, no real representative experience of brands to form conclusions beyond irrational dislikes.

I don't really understand how anyone can claim a hatred for something that they have never experienced? You might not like the way it looks but hatred? Having had a Juke as a hire car for a couple of weeks directly after a hateful Vauxhall Astra (also hire car) I thought it was quite impressive and managed to cover 1000 miles in my time with it without any issues at all.

Pot calling teapot black: Diesel Audi A6 driver [me] dislikes image of anther car brand wink

You're right. Not so much hatred as dislike based upon image and my distaste for the type of vehicle [SUV / SUV-lite], particularly in an urban environment. If I were to conjure up examples I'm sure that confirmation bias would kick in and I'd choose ones which would fit wth my view. I try to remain open-minded about most things, but the Quasqai, and especially the Juke, I have to admit a pre-disposed dislike.

I also remembered: it was a Peugeot 307, not 306.

Nothing German; Souless, over damped or just removed from the he experience.

French rocks.

Plus every time I see new a Merc or Audi I think that poor bloke is paying a good portion of his wages renting that. Tragic.

Be interesting to see what the ratio is of the posts on this thread based on irrational dislikes and Clarkson hyperbole versus actual experiences of the cars or manufacturers in question.

Based on many of the comments where image appears to be the primary consideration I'd guess at 80:20 or perhaps even 90:10?

I have owned upwards of 40 cars in my lifetime (I am 37) Really the only car I would never purchase is a Volkswagen or Audi outside of warranty. From experience.

I also refuse to purchase ANYTHING with a CVT transmission...horrible horrible things that have a tendency to fail early in their lives.

I would never own a Volvo - they are associated with those 65+ years of age with no taste and who can't drive(totally unaware of those around them).I would hope that when I am that age that I will still have some sense of style and avoid crap like Volvos! I guess those that buy them also haven't had their life turn out quite as good as they hoped of they would have bought a premium brand rather than a Volvo.

I dislike the current image of Audi but I love some of the older cars like the RS2
What a load of toss. You do know they do hot versions don't you?

I particularly dislike your last comment about life not turning out as good as they hoped. I certainly don't aspire to own a premium brand. Volvos are pretty good to be honest.

I'd never buy a Bugatti, Zonda or the like.
The reality of ownership would probably not match the expectation.
So don't try something just in case it disappoints? That's quite a mantra you've got there.

I imagine you also wouldn't date Margot Robbie just in case she ended up being bad in bed or a bit high maintenance?

Who?

No - Google would require opening a tab, then typing 12 letters and hitting the space tab and enter.
Who was just three letters and a question mark.

I realise who she is - the one in Wolf of Wall Street. And to be honest I wouldn't date her. Shag her yes, date her no.
She would be far too much maintenance with all the blokes like me sniffing around trying to shag her.

I can assure you the response from google would have been a lot quicker, which is the point when asking a question surely? Oh, and as pedantry seems to be the order of the day you had to click on quote all, then type Who? (two letters of which require a shift key to be pressed),the post and then back to topic. Her results come up on google as soon as you type marg by the way.

Anyway, back on topic...

Ill never purchase VW again. I've had nothing but issues with my Golf R,

- Paint job was swirled and in poor condition on delivery
- Cars electrics are CONSTANTLY playing up. Media/charging ports for phones often do not register sound or visuals, sometimes don't even register at all. Electric windows sometimes decide they don't like the auto function anymore and you have to engage the button for full range (1st world problem). Electric mirrors when switched to "0" meaning disengaged from L/R/Heating decide to move.
- Clutch slipped after 8,000 miles. My driving was not a factor to this, can safely say I do not ride the clutch. Refused to fix it under warranty and wanted me to foot a £1,507 bill. Only after 4 weeks of complaining did I manage to get them to 'lift' the labour costs.
- Poor treatment from dealership, twice I have booked my car in for works, only to make the 30 minute drive to their location to be told "we didn't know you were booked in?"

All this for a repeat customer of 5 years.

I would go a step further and say no more VAG, but alas there are minor differences.
